We present an analysis of seven flares detected from five RS CVn-type binaries (UZ Lib, sigma Gem, lambda And, V711 Tau and EI Eri) observed with XMM-Newton observatory. The quiescent state X-ray luminosities in the energy band of 0.3-10.0 keV of these stars were found to be 10^{30.7-30.9} erg/s. The exponential decay time in all the sample of flares range from ~ 1 to 8 hrs. The luminosity at peak of the flares in the energy band of 0.3-10.0 keV were found to be in the range of 10^{30.8} - 10^{31.8} erg/s. The great sensitivity of the XMM-EPIC instruments allowed us to perform time resolved spectral analysis during the flares and also in the subsquent quiescent phases. The derived metal abundances of coronal plasma were found to vary during the flares observed from sigma Gem, V771 Tau and EI Eri. In these flares elemental abundances found to be enhanced by factors of ~ 1.3-1.5 to the quiescent states. In most of the flares, the peak temperature was found to be more than 100 MK whereas emission measure increased by factors of 1.5 - 5.5. Significant sustained heating was present in the majority of flares. The loop lengths (L) derived for flaring structure were found to be of the order of 10^{10 -11} cm and are smaller than the stellar radii (R*) i.e. L/R* lesssim 1. The flare from sigma Gem showed a high and variable absorption column density during the flare.

We report that the RS CVn-type star GT Mus (HR 4492, HD 101379 + HD 101380) was the most active star in the X-ray sky in the last decade in terms of the scale of recurrent energetic flares. We detected 11 flares from GT Mus in 8 yr of observations wi th Monitor of All-sky X-ray Image (MAXI) from 2009 August to 2017 August. The detected flare peak luminosities were 1-4 $times$ 10$^{33}$ erg s$^{-1}$ in the 2.0-20.0 keV band for its distance of 109.6 pc. Our timing analysis showed long durations ($tau_{rm r} + tau_{rm d}$) of 2-6 days with long decay times ($tau_{rm d}$) of 1-4 days. The released energies during the decay phases of the flares in the 0.1-100 keV band ranged 1-11 $times$ 10$^{38}$ erg, which are at the upper end of the observed stellar flare. The released energies during whole duration time ranged 2-13 $times$ 10$^{38}$ erg in the same band. We carried out X-ray follow-up observations for one of the 11 flares with Neutron star Interior Composition Explorer (NICER) on 2017 July 18 and found that the flare cooled quasi-statically. On the basis of a quasi-static cooling model, the flare loop length is derived to be 4 $times$ 10$^{12}$ cm (or 60 R$_{odot}$). The electron density is derived to be 1 $times$ 10$^{10}$ cm$^{-3}$, which is consistent with the typical value of solar and stellar flares (10$^{10-13}$ cm$^{-3}$). The ratio of the cooling timescales between radiative cooling ($tau_{rm rad}$) and conductive cooling ($tau_{rm cond}$) is estimated to be $tau_{rm rad}$ $sim$ 0.1$tau_{rm cond}$ from the temperature; thus radiative cooling was dominant in this flare.

This paper presents new CCD BVRI light curves of the newly discovered RS CVn eclipsing binary V1034 Her in 2009 and 2010, which shapes are different from the previous published results. They show asymmetric outside eclipse and we try to use a spot mo del to explain the phenomena. Using the Wilson-Devinney program with one-spot or two-spots model, photometric solutions of the system and starspot parameters were derived. Comparing the two results, it shows that the case of two spots is better successful in reproducing the light-curve distortions. For all the spot longitudes, it suggests that the trend towards active longitude belts and each active longitude belts might be switch. Comparing the light curves of 2009 and 2010, it indicates that the light curve changes on a long time scale of one year, especially in phase 0.25. In addition, we also collected the values of the maximum amplitudes of photometric distortion of the short-period RS CVn binary. We found for the first time that there is a trend of increasing activity with decreasing the orbital period. Finally, fitting all available light minimum times including our newly obtained ones with polynomial function confirmed that the orbital period of V1034 underwent up increase.
We present our new photometry of DV Psc obtained in 2010 and 2011, and new spectroscopic observation on Feb. 14, 2012. During our observations, three flare-like events might be detected firstly in one period on DV Psc. The flare rate of DV Psc is abo ut 0.017 flares per hour. Using Wilson-Devinney program, we derived the preliminary starspot parameters. Moreover, the magnetic cycle is 9.26(+/-0.78) year analyzed by variabilities of Max.I - Max.II.

We present temporal and spectral characteristics of X-ray flares observed from six late-type G-K active dwarfs (V368 Cep, XI Boo, IM Vir, V471 Tau, CC Eri and EP Eri) using data from observations with the XMM-Newton observatory. All the stars were fo und to be flaring frequently and altogether a total of seventeen flares were detected above the ``quiescent state X-ray emission which varied from 0.5 to 8.3 x 10^{29} erg/s. The largest flare was observed in a low activity dwarf XI Boo with a decay time of 10 ks and ratio of peak flare luminosity to ``quiescent state luminosity of 2. We have studied the spectral changes during the flares by using colour-colour diagram and by detailed spectral analysis during the temporal evolution of the flares. The exponential decay of the X-ray light curves, and time evolution of the plasma temperature and emission measure are similar to those observed in compact solar flares. We have derived the semiloop lengths of flares based on the hydrodynamic flare model. The size of the flaring loops is found to be less than the stellar radius. The hydrodynamic flare decay analysis indicates the presence of sustained heating during the decay of most flares.
We present simultaneous and continuous observations of H_alpha, H_beta, NaI D_1, D_2 and HeI D_3 lines of the chromospherically active binary HR 1099. We have observed HR 1099 for more than 3 weeks almost continuously and monitored two flares. An inc rease in H_alpha, CaII H & K, H_beta, HeI D_3 and HeI lambda6678 and a strong filling-in of the NaI D_1, D_2 and MgI b triplet during one of the flares are observed. We have found that the flares took place at the same phase (0.85) of the binary orbit, and both of them seems to occur near the limb. Several X-rays flares were also detected by ASM on board RXTE. Rotational modulation in the X-rays light curve has been detected with maximum flux when the active K1IV star is in front.
