Aims: We study the supernova remnant 0506-68 in order to obtain detailed information about, among other things, the ionisation state and age of the ionised plasma. Methods: Using the Reflection Grating Spectrometer (RGS) onboard the XMM-Newton satellite we are able to take detailed spectra of the remnant. In addition, we use the MOS data to obtain spectral information at higher energies. Results: The spectrum shows signs of recombination and we derive the conditions for which the remnant and SNR in general are able to cool rapidly enough to become over-ionised. The elemental abundances found are mostly in agreement with the mean LMC abundances. Our models and calculations favour the lower age estimate mentioned in the literature of $sim4000$ year.
In this work, we present the first detailed analysis of the supernova remnant RX J1713.7-3946 in the hard X-ray energy range with the IBIS coded-mask telescope on board the INTEGRAL observatory. The shell-type morphology of the entire remnant is mapp
We present simultaneous XMM-Newton and NuSTAR observations spanning 3-78 keV of the nearest radio galaxy, Centaurus A (Cen A). The accretion geometry around the central engine in Cen A is still debated, and we investigate possible configurations usin
The study of X-ray reprocessing is one of the key diagnostic tools to probe the environment in X-ray binary systems. One difficult aspect of studying X-ray reprocessing is the presence of much brighter primary radiation from the compact star together
The Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) currently hosts around 23 high mass X-ray binaries (HMXBs) of which most are Be/X-ray binaries. The LMC XMM-Newton survey provided follow-up observations of previously known X-ray sources that were likely HMXBs, as we
We present results from a coordinated $XMM$-$Newton$+$NuSTAR$ observation of the type 1.8 Seyfert galaxy IRAS 13197-1627. This is a highly complex source, with strong contributions from relativistic reflection from the inner accretion disk, neutral a
