The discoveries of the heavy quarks are briefly reviewed, with a focus on the role played by Mario Greco in the interpretation of the experimental observations, and on his contributions to heavy quark precision phenomenology.

The present status of the heavy-quark production theory is critically reviewed in the first contribution. The second contribution summarises the present heavy flavour data from HERA and gives an outlook of what can be expected from HERA-II. The poten tial of the LHC experiments for charm and beauty physics is reviewed in the 3rd contribution. Then the relevance of saturation and small-x effects to heavy quark production at HERA and at the LHC are discussed. The non-perturbative aspects of heavy-quark fragmentation and their relevance to HERA and LHC are discussed in the next contribution. Finally, a comparison of different theoretical predictions for HERA and LHC based on different approaches is presented.
We study the medium-induced gluon emission process experienced by a hard jet parton propagating through the dense nuclear matter in the framework of deep inelastic scattering off a large nucleus. We work beyond the collinear rescattering expansion an d the soft gluon emission limit, and derive a closed formula for the medium-induced single gluon emission spectrum from a heavy or light quark jet interacting with the dense nuclear medium via transverse and longitudinal scatterings. Without performing the collinear rescattering expansion, the medium-induced gluon emission spectrum is controlled by the full distribution of the differential elastic scattering rates between the propagating partons and the medium constituents. We further show that if one utilizes heavy static scattering centers for the traversed nuclear matter and takes the soft gluon emission limit, our result can reduce to the first order in opacity Djordjevic-Gyulassy-Levai-Vitev formula.
In this work, we carry out the study of heavy flavor pentatuarks with four heavy quarks, which have typical $QQQQbar q$ configuration. Within the Chromomagnetic Interaction model, the mass spectrum of these discussed $QQQQbar q$ pentaquarks is given. In addition to the mass spectrum analysis, we also illustrate their two-body strong decay behavior by estimating some ratios of decay channels. By these effort, we suggest that future experiment should pay attention to this kind of pentaquark.

Lattice quantum chromodynamics provides first principles calculations for hadrons containing heavy quarks -- charm and bottom quarks. Their mass spectra, decay rates, and some hadronic matrix elements can be calculated on the lattice in a model indep endent manner. In this review, we introduce the effective theories that treat heavy quarks on the lattice. We summarize results on the heavy quarkonium spectrum, which verify the validity of the effective theory approach. We then discuss applications to $B$ physics, which is the main target of the lattice theory of heavy quarks. We review progress in lattice calculations of the $B$ meson decay constant, the $B$ parameter, semi-leptonic decay form factors, and other important quantities.)
Lattice QCD at finite density suffers from a severe sign problem, which has so far prohibited simulations of the cold and dense regime. Here we study the onset of nuclear matter employing a three-dimensional effective theory derived by combined stron g coupling and hopping expansions, which is valid for heavy but dynamical quarks and has a mild sign problem only. Its numerical evaluations agree between a standard Metropolis and complex Langevin algorithm, where the latter is free of the sign problem. Our continuum extrapolated data clearly show a first order phase transition building up at $mu_B approx m_B$ as the temperature approaches zero. An excellent description of the data is achieved by an analytic solution in the strong coupling limit.
