We have found a novel symmetry for XPM(Cross Phase Modulation) systems .We prove that this symmetry is a necessary condition for a single multiphoton process to be visible in more than one field. We have found, two EIT(Electromagnetically Induced Transparency) systems that show cases of this symmetry. The above process has the possibility of leading to strong sources of temporally entangled photons of different frequency. For cases that do not show this symmetry, more than one species of multiphoton processes can take place and each one is visible in one field only. When there is a symmetry, we predict cross field noise correlations for the scattered fields.Cross field noise correlations have recently been seen in a different situation that can provide interesting variation to our study, namely the generated fields in FWM(Four Wave Mixing). We postulate or conjecture the existence of two types of asymmetric multiphoton processes. We show only one of these is possible. One of systems we use for this purpose generates a $chi^{(9)}$ absorption resonance that is observable on the same trace that shows linear features, in an experiment described in a previous work but the order of nonlinearity newly interpreted using this work. This high order nonlinearity should be very sensitive to cross field correlations. We show how it can be used to test our conjecture of asymmetric processes. We also come across an important $chi^{(5)}$ absorption, comparable to linear absorption, that is anomalous. The anomaly is that the Imaginary part of this XPM nonlinearity can cause squeezing. We give a qualitative argument which shows that we dont expect the Imaginary part of the XPM nonlinearities we usually come across, to cause squeezing. This promising source of squeezing, is qualitatively different from the other sources hitherto known.

Optically induced ultrafast switching of single photons is demonstrated by rotating the photon polarization via the Kerr effect in a commercially available single mode fiber. A switching efficiency of 97% is achieved with a $sim1.7$,ps switching time , and signal-to-noise ratio of $sim800$. Preservation of the quantum state is confirmed by measuring no significant increase in the second-order autocorrelation function $g^{(2)}(0)$. These values are attained with only nanojoule level pump energies that are produced by a laser oscillator with 80,MHz repetition rate. The results highlight a simple switching device capable of both high-bandwidth operations and preservation of single-photon properties for applications in photonic quantum processing and ultrafast time-gating or switching.
Photons occupying multiple spatial modes hold a great promise for implementing high-dimensional quantum communication. We use spontaneous four wave mixing to generate multimode photon pairs in a few mode fiber. We show the photons are correlated in t he fiber mode basis using an all-fiber mode sorter. Our demonstration paves the way to realization of high-dimensional quantum protocols based on standard, commercially available, fibers in an all-fiber configuration.
We explore constraints on gauge bosons of a weakly coupled $U(1)_{B-L}$, $U(1)_{L_mu-L_e}$, $U(1)_{L_e-L_tau}$ and $U(1)_{L_mu-L_tau}$. To do so we apply the full constraining power of experimental bounds derived for a hidden photon of a secluded $U( 1)_{X}$ and translate them to the considered gauge groups. In contrast to the secluded hidden photon that acquires universal couplings to charged Standard Model particles through kinetic mixing with the photon, for these gauge groups the couplings to the different Standard Model particles can vary widely. We take finite, computable loop-induced kinetic mixing effects into account, which provide additional sensitivity in a range of experiments. In addition, we collect and extend limits from neutrino experiments as well as astrophysical and cosmological observations and include new constraints from white dwarf cooling. We discuss the reach of future experiments in searching for these gauge bosons.
Let $Gamma_g$ denote the orientation-preserving Mapping Class Group of the genus $ggeq 1$ closed orientable surface. In this paper we show that for fixed $g$, every finite group occurs as a quotient of a finite index subgroup of $Gamma_g$.

The Decodoku project seeks to let users get hands-on with cutting-edge quantum research through a set of simple puzzle games. The design of these games is explicitly based on the problem of decoding qudit variants of surface codes. This problem is pr esented such that it can be tackled by players with no prior knowledge of quantum information theory, or any other high-level physics or mathematics. Methods devised by the players to solve the puzzles can then directly be incorporated into decoding algorithms for quantum computation. In this paper we give a brief overview of the novel decoding methods devised by players, and provide short postmortem for Decodoku v1.0-v4.1.
