Evaporation/condensation transition of the Potts model on square lattice is numerically investigated by the Wang-Landau sampling method. Intrinsically system size dependent discrete transition between supersaturation state and phase-separation state is observed in the microcanonical ensemble by changing constrained internal energy. We calculate the microcanonical temperature, as a derivative of microcanonical entropy, and condensation ratio, and perform a finite size scaling of them to indicate clear tendency of numerical data to converge to the infinite size limit predicted by phenomenological theory for the isotherm lattice gas model.

The continuous ferromagnetic-paramagnetic phase transition in the two-dimensional Ising model has already been excessively studied by conventional canonical statistical analysis in the past. We use the recently developed generalized microcanonical in flection-point analysis method to investigate the least-sensitive inflection points of the microcanonical entropy and its derivatives to identify transition signals. Surprisingly, this method reveals that there are potentially two additional transitions for the Ising system besides the critical transition.

In a statistical ensemble with $M$ microstates, we introduce an $M times M$ correlation matrix with the correlations between microstates as its elements. Using eigenvectors of the correlation matrix, we can define eigen microstates of the ensemble. T he normalized eigenvalue by $M$ represents the weight factor in the ensemble of the corresponding eigen microstate. In the limit $M to infty$, weight factors go to zero in the ensemble without localization of microstate. The finite limit of weight factor when $M to infty$ indicates a condensation of the corresponding eigen microstate. This indicates a phase transition with new phase characterized by the condensed eigen microstate. We propose a finite-size scaling relation of weight factors near critical point, which can be used to identify the phase transition and its universality class of general complex systems. The condensation of eigen microstate and the finite-size scaling relation of weight factors have been confirmed by the Monte Carlo data of one-dimensional and two-dimensional Ising models.
We studied the non-equilibrium dynamics of the q-state Potts model in the square lattice, after a quench to sub-critical temperatures. By means of a continuous time Monte Carlo algorithm (non-conserved order parameter dynamics) we analyzed the long t erm behavior of the energy and relaxation time for a wide range of quench temperatures and system sizes. For q>4 we found the existence of different dynamical regimes, according to quench temperature range. At low (but finite) temperatures and very long times the Lifshitz-Allen-Cahn domain growth behavior is interrupted with finite probability when the system stuck in highly symmetric non-equilibrium metastable states, which induce activation in the domain growth, in agreement with early predictions of Lifshitz [JETP 42, 1354 (1962)]. Moreover, if the temperature is very low, the system always gets stuck at short times in a highly disordered metastable states with finite life time, which have been recently identified as glassy states. The finite size scaling properties of the different relaxation times involved, as well as their temperature dependency are analyzed in detail.
The thermodynamics of the discrete nonlinear Schrodinger equation in the vicinity of infinite temperature is explicitly solved in the microcanonical ensemble by means of large-deviation techniques. A first-order phase transition between a thermalized phase and a condensed (localized) one occurs at the infinite-temperature line. Inequivalence between statistical ensembles characterizes the condensed phase, where the grand-canonical representation does not apply. The control over finite size corrections of the microcanonical partition function allows to design an experimental test of delocalized negative-temperature states in lattices of cold atoms.

We develop a scaling theory for the finite-size critical behavior of the microcanonical entropy (density of states) of a system with a critically-divergent heat capacity. The link between the microcanonical entropy and the canonical energy distributi on is exploited to establish the former, and corroborate its predicted scaling form, in the case of the 3d Ising universality class. We show that the scaling behavior emerges clearly when one accounts for the effects of the negative background constant contribution to the canonical critical specific heat. We show that this same constant plays a significant role in determining the observed differences between the canonical and microcanonical specific heats of systems of finite size, in the critical region.
