For the one-dimensional Holstein model, we show that the relations among the scaling exponents of various correlation functions of the Tomonaga Luttinger liquid (LL), while valid in the thermodynamic limit, are significantly modified by finite size corrections. We obtain analytical expressions for these corrections and find that they decrease very slowly with increasing system size. The interpretation of numerical data on finite size lattices in terms of LL theory must therefore take these corrections into account. As an important example, we re-examine the proposed metallic phase of the zero-temperature, half-filled one-dimensional Holstein model without employing the LL relations. In particular, using quantum Monte Carlo calculations, we study the competition between the singlet pairing and charge ordering. Our results do not support the existence of a dominant singlet pairing state.

Specific heat experiments on single crystals of the S=1 quasi-one-dimensional bond-alternating antiferromagnet Ni(C_9H_24N_4)(NO_2)ClO_4, alias NTENP, have been performed in magnetic fields applied both parallel and perpendicular to the spin chains. We have found for the parallel field configuration that the magnetic specific heat (C_mag) is proportional to temperature (T) above a critical field H_c, at which the energy gap vanishes, in a temperature region above that of the long-range ordered state. The ratio C_mag/T increases as the magnetic field approaches H_c from above. The data are in good quantitative agreement with the prediction of the c=1 conformal field theory in conjunction with the velocity of the excitations calculated by a numerical diagonalization, providing a conclusive evidence for a Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid.
Strongly correlated quantum systems often display universal behavior as, in certain regimes, their properties are found to be independent of the microscopic details of the underlying system. An example of such a situation is the Tomonaga-Luttinger li quid description of one-dimensional strongly correlated bosonic or fermionic systems. Here we investigate how such a quantum liquid responds under dissipative dephasing dynamics and, in particular, we identify how the universal Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid properties melt away. Our study, based on adiabatic elimination, shows that dephasing first translates into the damping of the oscillations present in the density-density correlations, a behavior accompanied by a change of the Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid exponent. This first regime is followed by a second one characterized by the diffusive propagation of featureless correlations as expected for an infinite temperature state. We support these analytical predictions by numerically exact simulations carried out using a number-conserving implementation of the matrix product states algorithm adapted to open systems.
While the vast majority of known physical realizations of the Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid (TLL) have repulsive interactions defined with the dimensionless interaction parameter $K_{rm c}<1$, we here report that Rb$_2$Mo$_3$As$_3$ is in the opposite TLL regime of attractive interactions. This is concluded from a TLL-characteristic power-law temperature dependence of the $^{87}$Rb spin-lattice relaxation rates over broad temperature range yielding the TLL interaction parameter for charge collective modes $K_{rm c}=1.4$. The TLL of the one-dimensional band can be traced almost down to $T_{rm c} = 10.4 $~K, where the bulk superconducting state is stabilized by the presence of a three-dimensional band and characterized by the $^{87}$Rb temperature independent Knight shift and the absence of Hebel-Slichter coherence peak in the relaxation rates. The small superconducting gap measured in high magnetic fields reflects either the importance of the vortex core relaxation or the uniqueness of the superconducting state stemming from the attractive interactions defining the precursor TLL.
Combining inelastic neutron scattering and numerical simulations, we study the quasi-one dimensional Ising anisotropic quantum antiferromagnet bacovo in a longitudinal magnetic field. This material shows a quantum phase transition from a Neel ordered phase at zero field to a longitudinal incommensurate spin density wave at a critical magnetic field of 3.8 T. Concomitantly the excitation gap almost closes and a fundamental reconfiguration of the spin dynamics occurs. These experimental results are well described by the universal Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid theory developed for interacting spinless fermions in one dimension. We especially observe the rise of mainly longitudinal excitations, a hallmark of the unconventional low-field regime in Ising-like quantum antiferromagnet chains.
We study both noncentrosymmetric and time-reversal breaking Weyl semimetal systems under a strong magnetic field with the Coulomb interaction. The three-dimensional bulk system is reduced to many mutually interacting quasi-one-dimensional wires. Each strongly correlated wire can be approached within the Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid formalism. Including impurity scatterings, we inspect the localization effect and the temperature dependence of the electrical resistivity. The effect of a large number of Weyl points in real materials is also discussed.
