We determine the upper critical field $mu_0 H_{c2}(T_c)$ of non-centrosymmetric superconductor $Y_2 C_3$ using two distinct methods: the bulk magnetization M(T) and the tunnel-diode oscillator (TDO) based impedance measurements. It is found that the upper critical field reaches a value of 30T at zero temperature which is above the weak-coupling Pauli paramagnetic limit. We argue that the observation of such a large $mu_0 H_{c2}(0)$ in $Y_2 C_3$ could be attributed to the admixture of spin-singlet and spin-triplet pairing states as a result of broken inversion symmetry.

The superconducting parameters and upper critical field of the noncentrosymmetric superconductor BiPd have proven contentious. This material is of particular interest because it is a singular example of a $4f$-electron-free noncentrosymmetric superco nductor of which crystals may be grown and cleaved, enabling surface-sensitive spectroscopies. Here, using bulk probes augmented by tunnelling data on defects, we establish that the lower of the previously reported upper critical fields corresponds to the bulk transition. The material behaves as a nearly-weak-coupled BCS s-wave superconductor, and we report its superconducting parameters as drawn from the bulk upper critical field. Possible reasons behind the order-of-magnitude discrepancy in the reported upper critical fields are discussed.
We report synthesis, structural details and complete superconducting characterization of very recently discovered Nb2PdS5 new superconductor. The synthesized compound is crystallized in mono-clinic structure. Bulk superconductivity is seen in both ma gnetic susceptibility and electrical resistivity measurements with superconducting transition temperature (Tc) at 6K. The upper critical field (Hc2), being estimated from high field magneto-transport measure-ments is above 240kOe. The estimated Hc2(0) is clearly above the Pauli paramagnetic limit. Heat capacity measurements show clear transition with well defined peak at Tc, but with lower jump than as expected for a BCS type superconductor. The Sommerfield constant and Debye temperature as determined from low temperature fitting of heat capacity data are 32mJ/moleK2 and 263K respectively. Hall coefficients and resistivity in conjugation with electronic heat capacity indicates multiple gap superconductivity signatures in Nb2PdS5. We also studied the impact of hydrostatic pressure on superconductivity of Nb2PdS5 and found nearly no change in Tc for the given pressure range.
The upper critical field Hc2 is a fundamental measure of the pairing strength, yet there is no agreement on its magnitude and doping dependence in cuprate superconductors. We have used thermal conductivity as a direct probe of Hc2 in the cuprates YBa 2Cu3Oy and YBa2Cu4O8 to show that there is no vortex liquid at T = 0, allowing us to use high-field resistivity measurements to map out the doping dependence of Hc2 across the phase diagram. Hc2(p) exhibits two peaks, each located at a critical point where the Fermi surface undergoes a transformation. The condensation energy obtained directly from Hc2, and previous Hc1 data, undergoes a 20-fold collapse below the higher critical point. These data provide quantitative information on the impact of competing phases in suppressing superconductivity in cuprates.

We present the magneto-transport and the thermoelectric (Seebeck and Nernst coefficient) studies of the Nb-doped Bi2Se3 topological superconductor. The angle-dependent magnetoresistance study highlights the anisotropy in the upper critical field (Hc2 ) with the anisotropy parameter Gamma ~1.2. We observed a gradual decrease in low-temperature Hall resistivity on the application of magnetic field like any conventional superconductor, instead of the finite Hall resistivity which was linked to the chiral superconducting phase. The estimated value of the carrier concentration (~ 10^19 cm-3) for Nb0.2Bi2Se3 is one order larger than for Bi2Se3. Doping of Nb shows a significant decrease in the Seebeck coefficient value and the estimated Fermi temperature of the three-dimensional Fermi surface at the centre of Brillouin zone in the zero-temperature limit enhances by ~4 times in comparison to pristine Bi2Se3. We have observed a large value (~2.3 micro V K-1 T-1) of Nernst coefficient for Bi2Se3 at room temperature which decreases with Nb doping ( ~0.5 micro V K-1 T-1).
We investigated the vortex dynamics in the non-centrosymmetric superconductor Li_2Pt_3B in the temperature range 0.1 K - 2.8 K. Two different logarithmic creep regimes in the decay of the remanent magnetization from the Bean critical state have been observed. In the first regime, the creep rate is extraordinarily small, indicating the existence of a new, very effective pinning mechanism. At a certain time a vortex avalanche occurs that increases the logarithmic creep rate by a factor of about 5 to 10 depending on the temperature. This may indicate that certain barriers against flux motion are present and they can be opened under increased pressure exerted by the vortices. A possible mechanism based on the barrier effect of twin boundaries is briefly discussed.
