We present a comment on the kinematic variable $m_{CT2}$ recently proposed in Amplification of endpoint structure for new particle mass measurement at the LHC. The variable is designed to be applied to models such as R-parity conserving Supersymmetry (SUSY) when there is pair production of new heavy particles each of which decays to a single massless visible and a massive invisible component. It was proposed in Amplification of endpoint structure for new particle mass measurement at the LHC that a measurement of the peak of the $m_{CT2}$ distribution could be used to precisely constrain the masses of the SUSY particles. We show that when Standard Model backgrounds are included in simulations, the sensitivity of the $m_{CT2}$ variable to the SUSY particle masses is more seriously impacted for $m_{CT2}$ than for other previously proposed variables.

We introduce a new collider variable, MCT2, named as constransverse mass. It is a mixture of `stransverse mass(MT2) and `contransverse mass(MCT) variables, where the usual endpoint structure of MT2 distribution can be amplified in the MCT2 basis by l arge Jacobian factor which is controlled by trial missing particle mass. Thus the MCT2 projection of events increases our observability to measure several important endpoints from new particle decays, which are usually expected to be buried by irreducible backgrounds with various systematic uncertainties at the LHC. In this paper we explain the phenomenology of endpoint amplification in MCT2 projection, and describe how one may employ this variable to measure several meaningful mass constraints of new particles.

This note presents an analysis of the potential of future high-energy electron-positron colliders to measure the $b$-quark mass. We perform a full-simulation study of the measurement of the ratio of the three-jet rates in events with $bbar{b}(g)$ and $qbar{q}(g)$ production, $R_{3}^{bl}$, and assess the dominant uncertainties, including theory and experimental systematic uncertainties. We find that the ILC Higgs factory stage, with an integrated luminosity of 2 ab$^{-1}$ at $sqrt{s}=$ 250 GeV can measure the $b-$quark $bar{MS}$ mass at a scale of 250 GeV ($m_b(250~$GeV$)$) with a precision of 1 GeV. From this result we extrapolate the potential of the GigaZ run running at $sqrt{s}= m_Z$. We expect $m_b(m_Z)$ can be determined with an 0.12 GeV uncertainty, exceeding the precision of the LEP and SLD measurements by a factor $sim$3.
We argue that the concept of a multi-purpose fixed-target experiment with the proton or lead-ion LHC beams extracted by a bent crystal would offer a number of ground-breaking precision-physics opportunities. The multi-TeV LHC beams will allow for the most energetic fixed-target experiments ever performed. The fixed-target mode has the advantage of allowing for high luminosities, spin measurements with a polarised target, and access over the full backward rapidity domain --uncharted until now-- up to x_F ~ -1.
At LHC energies, the charged-particle multiplicity dependence of particle production is a topic of considerable interest in $pp$ collisions. It has been argued that multiple partonic interactions play an important role in particle production mechanis ms, not only affecting the soft processes but also the hard processes. Recently, ALICE has measured $J/psi$ production as a function of charged-particle multiplicity to study the correlation between soft and hard processes. In this contribution, we present the $J/psi$ production versus multiplicity for $pp$ and $p-Pb$ collisions measured by ALICE. We compare the results with different theoretical models.
