The present paper deals with the question of representability of nets of C*-algebras whose underlying poset, indexing the net, is not upward directed. A particular class of nets, called C*-net bundles, is classified in terms of C*-dynamical systems having as group the fundamental group of the poset. Any net of C*-algebras embeds into a unique C*-net bundle, the enveloping net bundle, which generalizes the notion of universal C*-algebra given by Fredenhagen to nonsimply connected posets. This allows a classification of nets; in particular, we call injective those nets having a faithful embedding into the enveloping net bundle. Injectivity turns out to be equivalent to the existence of faithful representations. We further relate injectivity to a generalized Cech cocycle of the net, and this allows us to give examples of nets exhausting the above classification. Using the results of this paper we shall show, in a forthcoming paper, that any conformal net over S^1 is injective.

In recent times a new kind of representations has been used to describe superselection sectors of the observable net over a curved spacetime, taking into account of the effects of the fundamental group of the spacetime. Using this notion of represent ation, we prove that any net of C*-algebras over S^1 admits faithful representations, and when the net is covariant under Diff(S^1), it admits representations covariant under any amenable subgroup of Diff(S^1).
Let X be a space, intended as a possibly curved spacetime, and A a precosheaf of C*-algebras on X. Motivated by algebraic quantum field theory, we study the Kasparov and Theta-summable K-homology of A interpreting them in terms of the holonomy equiva riant K-homology of the associated C*-dynamical system. This yields a characteristic class for K-homology cycles of A with values in the odd cohomology of X, that we interpret as a generalized statistical dimension.
Motivated by Exels inverse semigroup approach to combinatorial C*-algebras, in a previous work the authors defined an inverse semigroup associated with a labelled space. We construct a representation of the C*-algebra of a labelled space, inspired by how one might cut or glue labelled paths together, that proves that non-zero elements in the inverse semigroup correspond to non-zero elements in the C*-algebra. We also show that the spectrum of its diagonal C*-subalgebra is homeomorphic to the tight spectrum of the inverse semigroup associated with the labelled space.

The program of matrix product states on the infinite tensor product ${mathcal A}^{otimes mathbb Z}$, initiated by Fannes, Nachtergaele and Werner in their seminal paper Commun. Math. Phys. Vol. 144, 443-490 (1992), is re-assessed in a context where $ mathcal A$ is an infinite nuclear $C^ast$-algebra. While this setting presents new technical challenges, fine advances on ordered spaces by Kavruk, Paulsen, Todorov and Tomforde enabled us to push through most of the program and to demonstrate that the matrix product states accept generalizations as operator product states.
Let $A$ be a unital operator algebra and let $alpha$ be an automorphism of $A$ that extends to a *-automorphism of its $ca$-envelope $cenv (A)$. In this paper we introduce the isometric semicrossed product $A times_{alpha}^{is} bbZ^+ $ and we show th at $cenv(A times_{alpha}^{is} bbZ^+) simeq cenv (A) times_{alpha} bbZ$. In contrast, the $ca$-envelope of the familiar contractive semicrossed product $A times_{alpha} bbZ^+ $ may not equal $cenv (A) times_{alpha} bbZ$. Our main tool for calculating $ca$-envelopes for semicrossed products is the concept of a relative semicrossed product of an operator algebra, which we explore in the more general context of injective endomorphisms. As an application, we extend a recent result of Davidson and Katsoulis to tensor algebras of $ca$-correspondences. We show that if $T_{X}^{+}$ is the tensor algebra of a $ca$-correspondence $(X, fA)$ and $alpha$ a completely isometric automorphism of $T_{X}^{+}$ that fixes the diagonal elementwise, then the contractive semicrossed product satisfies $ cenv(T_{X}^{+} times_{alpha} bbZ^+)simeq O_{X} times_{alpha} bbZ$, where $O_{X}$ denotes the Cuntz-Pimsner algebra of $(X, fA)$.
