Search for azimuthal asymmetries in semi-inclusive production of charged hadrons by 160 GeV muons on the longitudinally polarized deuterium target, has been performed using the 2002- 2004 COMPASS data. The observed asymmetries integrated over the kinematical variables do not depend on the azimuthal angle of produced hadrons and are consistent with the ratio $g_1^d(x)/f_1^d(x)$. The asymmetries are parameterized taking into account possible contributions from different parton distribution functions and parton fragmentation functions depending on the transverse spin of quarks. They can be modulated (either/or/and) with $sin(phi), sin(2phi), sin(3phi)$ and $cos(phi)$. The $x$-, $z$- and $p_h^T$-dependencies of these amplitudes are studied.

Single hadron azimuthal asymmetries of positive and negative hadrons produced in muon semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering off longitudinally polarised deuterons are determined using the 2006 COMPASS data and also combined all deuteron COMPASS da ta. For each hadron charge, the dependence of the azimuthal asymmetry on the hadron azimuthal angle $phi$ is obtained by means of a five-parameter fitting function that besides a $phi$-independent term includes four modulations predicted by theory: $sinphi$, $sin 2 phi$, $sin 3phi$ and $cosphi$. The amplitudes of the five terms have been extracted, first, for the hadrons in the whole available kinematic region. In further fits, performed for hadrons from a restricted kinematic region, the $phi$-dependence is determined as a function of one of three variables (Bjorken-$x$, fractional energy of virtual photon taken by the outgoing hadron and hadron transverse momentum), while disregarding the others. Except the $phi$-independent term, all the modulation amplitudes are very small, and no clear kinematic dependence could be observed within experimental uncertainties.
Azimuthal asymmetries in exclusive electroproduction of a real photon from a longitudinally polarized deuterium target are measured with respect to target polarization alone and with respect to target polarization combined with beam helicity and/or b eam charge. The asymmetries appear in the distribution of the real photons in the azimuthal angle $phi$ around the virtual photon direction, relative to the lepton scattering plane. The asymmetries arise from the deeply virtual Compton scattering process and its interference with the Bethe-Heitler process. The results for the beam-charge and beam-helicity asymmetries from a tensor polarized deuterium target with vanishing vector polarization are shown to be compatible with those from an unpolarized deuterium target, which is expected for incoherent scattering dominant at larger momentum transfer. Furthermore, the results for the single target-spin asymmetry and for the double-spin asymmetry are found to be compatible with the corresponding asymmetries previously measured on a hydrogen target. For coherent scattering on the deuteron at small momentum transfer to the target, these findings imply that the tensor contribution to the cross section is small. Furthermore, the tensor asymmetry is found to be compatible with zero.
A comprehensive set of azimuthal single-spin and double-spin asymmetries in semi-inclusive leptoproduction of pions, charged kaons, protons, and antiprotons from transversely polarized protons is presented. These asymmetries include the previously pu blished HERMES results on Collins and Sivers asymmetries, the analysis of which has been extended to include protons and antiprotons and also to an extraction in a three-dimensional kinematic binning and enlarged phase space. They are complemented by corresponding results for the remaining four single-spin and four double-spin asymmetries allowed in the one-photon-exchange approximation of the semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering process for target-polarization orientation perpendicular to the direction of the incoming lepton beam. Among those results, significant non-vanishing $cos{phi-phi_S}$ modulations provide evidence for a sizable worm-gear (II) distribution, $g_{1T}$. Most of the other modulations are found to be consistent with zero with the notable exception of large $sin{phi_S}$ modulations for charged pions and positive kaons.

We show that for Drell-Yan events by unpolarized hadronic projectiles and nuclear targets, azimuthal asymmetries can arise from the nuclear distortion of the hadronic projectile wave function, typically a spin-orbit effect occurring on the nuclear su rface. The asymmetry depends on quantities that enter also the spin asymmetry in the corresponding Drell-Yan event on polarized free nucleonic targets. Hence, this study can be of help in exploring the spin structure of the nucleon, in particular the transverse spin distribution of partons inside the proton. All arguments can be extended also to antinucleon projectiles and, consequently, apply to possible future measurements involving nuclear targets at the foreseen HESR ring at GSI.
We present a measurement of the azimuthal asymmetries of two charged pions in the inclusive process $e^+e^-rightarrow pipi X$ based on a data set of 62 $rm{pb}^{-1}$ at the center-of-mass energy $sqrt{s}=3.65$ GeV collected with the BESIII detector. These asymmetries can be attributed to the Collins fragmentation function. We observe a nonzero asymmetry, which increases with increasing pion momentum. As our energy scale is close to that of the existing semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering experimental data, the measured asymmetries are important inputs for the global analysis of extracting the quark transversity distribution inside the nucleon and are valuable to explore the energy evolution of the spin-dependent fragmentation function.
