$LiHo_xY_{1-x}F_4$ is an insulating system where the magnetic Ho$^{3+}$ ions have an Ising character, and interact mainly through magnetic dipolar fields. We used the muon spin relaxation technique to study the nature of the ground state for samples with x=0.25, 0.12, 0.08, 0.045 and 0.018. In contrast with some previous works, we have not found any signature of canonical spin glass behavior down to $approx$15mK. Instead, below $approx$300mK we observed dynamic magnetism characterized by a single correlation time with a temperature independent fluctuation rate. We observed that this low temperature fluctuation rate increases with x up to 0.08, above which it levels off. The 300mK energy scale corresponds to the Ho3+ hyperfine interaction strength, suggesting that the hyperfine interaction may be intimately involved with the spin dynamics in this system.

We analyze recent experiments on the dilute rare-earth compound LiHo_xY_(1-x)F_4 in the context of an effective Ising dipolar model. Using a Monte Carlo method we calculate the low-temperature behavior of the specific heat and linear susceptibility, and compare our results to measurements. In our model the susceptibility follows a Curie-Weiss law at high temperature, chi ~ 1/(T-T_cw), with a Curie-Weiss temperature that scales with dilution, T_cw ~ x, consistent with early experiments. We also find that the peak in the specific heat scales linearly with dilution, C_max(T) ~ x, in disagreement with recent experiments. Experimental studies do not reach a consensus on the functional form of these quantities, and in particular we do not see reported scalings of the form chi ~ T^-0.75 and chi ~ exp(-T/T_0). Furthermore we calculate the ground state magnetization as a function of dilution, and re-examine the phase diagram around the critical dilution x_c=0.24(3). We find that the spin glass susceptibility for the Ising model does not diverge below x_c, while recent experiments give strong evidence for a stable spin-glass phase in LiHo_0.167Y_0.833F_4.

The evolution of the electronic properties of electron-doped (Sr{1-x}La{x})2IrO4 is experimentally explored as the doping limit of La is approached. As electrons are introduced, the electronic ground state transitions from a spin-orbit Mott phase int o an electronically phase separated state, where long-range magnetic order vanishes beyond x = 0.02 and charge transport remains percolative up to the limit of La substitution (x~0.06). In particular, the electronic ground state remains inhomogeneous even beyond the collapse of the parent states long-range antiferromagnetic order, while persistent short-range magnetism survives up to the highest La-substitution levels. Furthermore, as electrons are doped into Sr2IrO4, we observe the appearance of a low temperature magnetic glass-like state intermediate to the complete suppression of antiferromagnetic order. Universalities and differences in the electron-doped phase diagrams of single layer and bilayer Ruddlesden-Popper strontium iridates are discussed.
We present zero-field {mu}SR measurements for LiY$_{1-x}$Ho$_{x}$F$_{4}$ samples with x = 0.0017, 0.0085, 0.0406, and 0.0855. We characterize the dynamics associated with the formation of the (F-{mu}-F)$^{-1}$ complex by comparing our data to Monte C arlo simulations to determine the concentration range over which the spin dynamics are determined primarily by the Ho$^{3+}$-{mu} interaction rather than the F-{mu} interaction. Simulations show that F-{mu}-F oscillations should evolve into a Lorentzian Kubo-Toyabe decay for an increasing static magnetic field distribution {Gamma} (i.e., increasing x), but the data do not show this behavior, consistent with the recently reported existence of strong magnetic fluctuations in this system at low temperatures. Anisotropy in the field distribution is shown to cause small errors of order 10% from behavior predicted for an isotropic distribution. Finally, numerical calculations show that values of {Gamma} calculated in the single ion limit greatly exceed the values extracted from curve fits, suggesting that strong correlations play an important role in this system.
The superconducting ground state of newly reported ZrIrSi is probed by means of $mu$SR technique along with resistivity measurement. The occurrence of superconductivity at $T_mathrm{C}$ = 1.7 K is confirmed by resistivity measurement. ZF-$mu$SR study revealed that below $T_mathrm{C}$, there is no spontaneous magnetic field in the superconducting state, indicates TRS is preserved in case of ZrIrSi. From TF-$mu$SR measurement, we have estimated the superfluid density as a function of temperature, which is described by an isotropic $s-$wave model with a superconducting gap $2Delta(0)/k_mathrm{B}T_mathrm{C}$ = 5.1, indicates the presence of strong spin-orbit coupling. {it Ab-initio} electronic structure calculation indicates that there are four bands passing through the Fermi level, forming four Fermi surface pockets. We find that the low-energy bands are dominated by the $4d$-orbitals of transition metal Zr, with substantially lesser weight from the $5d$-orbitals of the Ir-atoms.
Muon spin relaxation and rotation ($mu$SR) experiments on single crystals of the structurally perfect triangular antiferromagnet YbMgGaO$_4$ indicate the absence of both static long-range magnetic order and spin freezing down to 0.048 K in zero field . Below 0.4 K, the $mu^{+}$ spin relaxation rates, which are proportional to the dynamic correlation function of the Yb$^{3+}$ spins, exhibit temperature-independent plateaus. Same behavior is revealed by temperature-independent local susceptibilities extracted from the Knight shifts of the $mu^{+}$ spin rotation frequencies under a transverse field of 20 Oe. All these $mu$SR results unequivocally support the formation of a gapless U(1) quantum spin liquid ground state in the triangular antiferromagnet YbMgGaO$_4$.
