We investigate the coherent transport of a single photon in coupled semiconductor microcavity waveguide, which can be controlled by in-plane excitons in quantum well embedded in the antinode of the electromagnetic field in one of the cavities. The reflection coefficient and transmissivity for the single photon propagating in this semiconductor waveguide are obtained. It is shown that the effect of the excitons decay plays an important role in the transport properties of the single photon in this microcavity waveguide if we refer to real systems.

We present a comprehensive theoretical description of quantum well exciton-polaritons imbedded in a planar semiconductor microcavity. The exact non-local dielectric response of the quantum well exciton is treated in detail. The 4-spinor structure of the hole subband in the quantum well is considered, including the pronounced band mixing effect. The scheme is self-contained and can be used to treat different semiclassical aspects of the microcavity properties. As an example, we analyze the selection rules for the exciton-cavity mode coupling for different excitons.
We explore the generation of anti-Stokes fluorescence from strongly coupled organic dye microcavities following resonant ground-state excitation. We observe polariton emission along the lower polariton branch, with our results indicating that this pr ocess involves a return to the exciton reservoir and the absorption of thermal energy from molecules in a vibrationally excited ground-state. We speculate that the generation of a population of hot polaritons is enhanced by the fact that the cavity supresses the emission of Stokes-shifted fluorescence, as it is located energetically below the cut-off frequency of the cavity.

We develop a general dynamical theory for studying a single photon transport in a one-dimensional (1D) waveguide coupled to multiple emitters which can be either identical or non-identical. In this theory, both the effects of the waveguide and non-wa veguide vacuum modes are included. This theory enables us to investigate the propagation of an emitter excitation or an arbitrary single photon pulse along an array of emitters coupled to a 1D waveguide. The dipole-dipole interaction induced by the non-waveguide modes, which is usually neglected in the literatures, can significantly modify the dynamics of the emitter system as well as the characteristics of output field if the emitter separation is much smaller than the resonance wavelength. Non-identical emitters can also strongly couple to each other if their energy difference is smaller than or of the order of the dipole-dipole energy shift. Interestingly, if their energy difference is close but non-zero, a very narrow transparency window around the resonance frequency can appear which does not occur for identical emitters. This phenomenon may find important applications in quantum waveguide devices such as optical switch and ultra narrow single photon frequency comb generator.
Rephasing and non-rephasing two-dimensional coherent spectra map the anti-crossing associated with normal-mode splitting in a semiconductor microcavity. For a 12-meV detuning range near zero detuning, it is observed that there are two diagonal featur es related to the intra-action of exciton-polariton branches and two off-diagonal features related to coherent interaction between the polaritons. At negative detuning, the lineshape properties of the diagonal intra-action features are distinguishable and can be associated with cavity-like and exciton-like modes. A biexcitonic companion feature is observed, shifted from the exciton feature by the biexciton binding energy. Closer to zero detuning, all features are enhanced and the diagonal intra-action features become nearly equal in amplitude and linewidth. At positive detuning the exciton- and cavity-like characteristics return to the diagonal intra-action features. Off-diagonal interaction features exhibit asymmetry in their amplitudes throughout the detuning range. The amplitudes are strongly modulated (and invert) at small positive detuning, as the lower polariton branch crosses the bound biexciton energy determined from negative detuning spectra.
We study the dynamics of a single photon pulse travels through a linear atomic chain coupled to a one-dimensional (1D) single mode photonic waveguide. We derive a time-dependent dynamical theory for this collective many-body system which allows us to study the real time evolution of the photon transport and the atomic excitations. Our analytical result is consistent with previous numerical calculations when there is only one atom. For an atomic chain, the collective interaction between the atoms mediated by the waveguide mode can significantly change the dynamics of the system. The reflectivity of a photon can be tuned by changing the ratio of coupling strength and the photon linewidth or by changing the number of atoms in the chain. The reflectivity of a single photon pulse with finite bandwidth can even approach $100%$. The spectrum of the reflected and transmitted photon can also be significantly different from the single atom case. Many interesting physical phenomena can occur in this system such as the photonic bandgap effects, quantum entanglement generation, Fano-like interference, and superradiant effects. For engineering, this system may serve as a single photon frequency filter, single photon modulation and may find important applications in quantum information.
