We discuss a quantum description of bubble growth in a superheated liquid Helium by addressing the problem of operator ordering ambiguities that arise due to the presence of position dependent mass (PDM) in this system. Using a supersymmetric quantum mechanics formalism along with the Weyl quantization rule, we are able to identify specific operator orderings for this problem. This is a general method which should be applicable to other PDM systems.

Using the Madelung transformation we show that in a quantum Free Electron Laser (QFEL) the beam obeys the equations of a quantum fluid in which the potential is the classical potential plus a quantum potential. The classical limit is shown explicitly.
We show that the Quantum Hall Soliton constructed in cite{giantbob} is stable under small perturbations. We find that creating quasiparticles actually lowers the energy of the system, and discuss whether this indicates an instability on the time scales relevant to the problem.
The PICASSO project is a cold dark matter (CDM) search experiment relying on the superheated droplet technique. The detectors use superheated freon liquid droplets (active material) dispersed and trapped in a polymerized gel. This detection technique is based on the phase transition of superheated droplets at room or moderate temperatures. The phase transitions are induced by nuclear recoils when undergoing interactions with particles, including CDM candidates such as the neutralinos predicted by supersymmetric models. The suitability of the technique for this purpose has been demonstrated by R&D studies performed over several years on detectors of various composition and volume. Simulations performed to understand the detector response to neutrons and alpha particles are presented along with corresponding data obtained at the Montreal Laboratory.

We show how to approximately represent a quantum state using the square root of the usual amount of classical memory. The classical representation of an $n$-qubit state $psi$ consists of its inner products with $O(sqrt{2^n})$ stabilizer states. A qua ntum state initially specified by its $2^n$ entries in the computational basis can be compressed to this form in time $O(2^n mathrm{poly}(n))$, and, subsequently, the compressed description can be used to additively approximate the expectation value of an arbitrary observable. Our compression scheme directly gives a new protocol for the vector in subspace problem with randomized one-way communication complexity that matches (up to polylogarithmic factors) the optimal upper bound, due to Raz. We obtain an exponential improvement over Razs protocol in terms of computational efficiency.
We present a Bohmian description of a decaying quantum system. A particle is initially confined in a region around the origin which is surrounded by a repulsive potential barrier. The particle leaks out in time tunneling through the barrier. We deter mine Bohm trajectories with which we can visualize various features of the decaying system.
