Galaxies on the largest scales of the Universe are observed to be embedded in the filamentary cosmic web which is shaped by the nonlinear tidal field. As an efficient tool to quantitatively describe the statistics of this cosmic web, we present the anisotropic two-point correlation functions of the nonlinear traceless tidal field in the principal-axis frame, which are measured using numerical data from an N-body simulation. We show that both of the nonlinear density and traceless tidal fields are more strongly correlated along the directions perpendicular to the eigenvectors associated with the largest eigenvalues of the local tidal field. The correlation length scale of the traceless tidal field is found to be ~20 Mpc/h, which is much larger than that of the density field ~5 Mpc/h. We also provide analytic fitting formulae for the anisotropic correlation functions of the traceless tidal field, which turn out to be in excellent agreement with the numerical results. We expect that our numerical results and analytic formula are useful to disentangle cosmological information from the filamentary network of the large-scale structures.
The observed clustering of galaxies and the cross-correlation of galaxies and mass provide important constraints on both cosmology and models of galaxy formation. Even though the dissipation and feedback processes associated with galaxy formation are
We investigate how the shape of the galaxy two-point correlation function as measured in the zCOSMOS survey depends on local environment, quantified in terms of the density contrast on scales of 5 Mpc/h. We show that the flat shape previously observe
We establish a practical method for the joint analysis of anisotropic galaxy two- and three-point correlation functions (2PCF and 3PCF) on the basis of the decomposition formalism of the 3PCF using tri-polar spherical harmonics. We perform such an an
The nature of dark energy and the complete theory of gravity are two central questions currently facing cosmology. A vital tool for addressing them is the 3-point correlation function (3PCF), which probes deviations from a spatially random distributi
We compute the most general embedding space two-point function in arbitrary Lorentz representations in the context of the recently introduced formalism in arXiv:1905.00036 and arXiv:1905.00434. This work provides a first explicit application of this
