We consider a Josephson junction where the weak-link is formed by a non-centrosymmetric ferromagnet. In such a junction, the superconducting current acts as a direct driving force on the magnetic moment. We show that the a.c. Josephson effect generates a magnetic precession providing then a feedback to the current. Magnetic dynamics result in several anomalies of current-phase relations (second harmonic, dissipative current) which are strongly enhanced near the ferromagnetic resonance frequency.

We theoretically study the Josephson effect in a superconductor/normal metal/superconductor ({it S}/{it N}/{it S}) Josephson junction composed of $s$-wave {it S}s with {it N} which is sandwiched by two ferromagnetic insulators ({it F}s), forming a sp in valve, in the vertical direction of the junction. We show that the 0-$pi$ transition of the Josephson critical current occurs with increasing the thickness of {it N} along the junction. This transition is due to the magnetic proximity effect (MPE) which induces ferromagnetic magnetization in the {it N}. Moreover, we find that, even for fixed thickness of {it N}, the proposed Josephson junction with the spin valve can be switched from $pi$ to 0 states and vice versa by varying the magnetization configuration (parallel or antiparallel) of two {it F}s. We also examine the effect of spin-orbit scattering on the Josephson critical current and argue that the 0-$pi$ transition found here can be experimentally observed within the current nanofabrication techniques, thus indicating a promising potential of this junction as a 0-$pi$ switching device operated reversibly with varying the magnetic configuration in the spin valve by, e.g., applying an external magnetic field. %with the magnetization configuration in the spin valve. Our results not only provide possible applications in superconducting electronics but also suggest the importance of a fundamental concept of MPE in nanostructures of multilayer {it N}/{it F} systems.

We propose a scheme to detect the Majorana bound states (MBSs) by a thermodynamically stable D.C. Josephson current with $4pi$-periodicity in the superconducting phase difference, which is distinct from the previous A.C. $4pi$-periodicity found in to pological superconducting Josephson junctions. The scheme, consisting of a quantum dot coupled to two s-wave superconducting leads and a floating topological superconductor supporting two MBSs at its ends, only exploits the interplay of a local Zeeman field and the exotic helical and self-Hermitian properties of MBSs, without requiring the conservation of fermion parity and not relying on the zero-energy property of MBSs. Our D.C. $4pi$-periodicity is thus robust against the overlap between the two MBSs and various system parameters, including the local Coulomb interaction, the tunneling asymmetry, and the width of superconducting gap, which facilitates experimentally detection of the MBSs.

We discuss the behavior of a two-level system coupled to a quantum dot contacted by superconducting source/drain electrodes, representing a simple model for the conformational degree of freedom of a molecular dot or a break junction. The Josephson cu rrent is shown to induce conformational changes, including a complete reversal. For small bias voltage, periodic conformational motions induced by Landau-Zener transitions between Andreev states are predicted.

We theoretically study spin current through ferromagnet (F) in a Josephson junction composed of s-wave superconductors and two layers of ferromagnets. Using quasiclassical theory, we show that the long-range spin current can be driven by the supercon ducting phase difference without voltage drop. The origin of this spin current is due to spin-triplet Cooper pairs (STCs) formed by electrons of equal-spin, which are induced by proximity effect inside the F. We find that the spin current carried by the STCs exhibits long-range propagation in the F even where the Josephson charge current is practically zero. We also show that this spin current persists over a remarkably longer distance than the ordinary spin current carried by spin polarized conduction electrons in the F. Our results thus indicate the promising potential of Josephson junctions based on multilayer ferromagnets for spintronics applications with long-range propagating spin current.
We present a quantitative study of the current-voltage characteristics (CVC) of diffusive superconductor/ insulator/ ferromagnet/ superconductor (SIFS) tunnel Josephson junctions. In order to obtain the CVC we calculate the density of states (DOS) in the F/S bilayer for arbitrary length of the ferromagnetic layer, using quasiclassical theory. For a ferromagnetic layer thickness larger than the characteristic penetration depth of the superconducting condensate into the F layer, we find an analytical expression which agrees with the DOS obtained from a self-consistent numerical method. We discuss general properties of the DOS and its dependence on the parameters of the ferromagnetic layer. In particular we focus our analysis on the DOS oscillations at the Fermi energy. Using the numerically obtained DOS we calculate the corresponding CVC and discuss their properties. Finally, we use CVC to calculate the macroscopic quantum tunneling (MQT) escape rate for the current biased SIFS junctions by taking into account the dissipative correction due to the quasiparticle tunneling. We show that the influence of the quasiparticle dissipation on the macroscopic quantum dynamics of SIFS junctions is small, which is an advantage of SIFS junctions for superconducting qubits applications.
