We correct the mistaken claim made in cite{Guzey:2005ec,Guzey:2006xi} that the minimal model of the dual parameterization of nucleon generalized parton distributions (GPDs) gives a good, essentially model-independent description of high-energy data on deeply virtual Compton scattering (DVCS). In the implementation of the dual parameterization in cite{Guzey:2005ec,Guzey:2006xi}, the numerical prefactor of two in front of the DVCS amplitude was missing. We show that the corrected minimal model of the dual parameterization significantly overestimates the HERA data (H1 and ZEUS) on the DVCS cross section.

We develop the minimal model of a new leading order parameterization of GPDs introduced by Shuvaev and Polyakov. The model for GPDs H and E is formulated in terms of the forward quark distributions, the Gegenbauer moments of the D-term and the forwar d limit of the GPD E. The model is designed primarely for small and medium-size values of x_B, x_B leq 0.2. We examined two different models of the t-dependence of the GPDs: The factorized exponential model and the non-factorized Regge-motivated model. Using our model, we successfully described the DVCS cross section measured by H1 and ZEUS, the moments of the beam-spin A_{LU}^{sin phi}, beam-charge A_{C}^{cos phi} and transversely-polarized target A_{UT}^{sin phi cos phi} DVCS asymmetries measured by HERMES and A_{LU}^{sin phi} measured by CLAS. The data on A_{C}^{cos phi} prefers the Regge-motivated model of the t-dependence of the GPDs. The data on A_{UT}^{sin phi cos phi} indicates that the u and d quarks carry only a small fraction of the proton total angular momentum.
We consider a minimal model where the Higgs boson arises as an elementary pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone boson. The model is based on an extended scalar sector with global SO(5)/SO(4) symmetry. To achieve the correct electroweak symmetry breaking pattern, th e model is augmented either with an explicit symmetry breaking term or an extra singlet scalar field. We consider separately both of these possibili- ties. We fit the model with the known particle spectrum at the electroweak scale and extrapolate to high energies using renormalization group. We find that the model can remain stable and perturbative up to the Planck scale provided that the heavy beyond Standard Model scalar states have masses in a narrow interval around 3 TeV.
The signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of a bit series written with heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) on granular media depends on a large number of different parameters. The choice of material properties is essential for the obtained switching probab ilities of single grains and therefore for the written bits quality in terms of SNR. Studies where the effects of different material compositions on transition jitter and the switching probability are evaluated were done, but it is not obvious, how significant those improvements will finally change the received SNR. To investigate that influence, we developed an analytical model of the switching probability phase diagram, which contains independent parameters for, inter alia, transition width, switching probability and curvature. Different values lead to corresponding bit patterns on granular media, where a reader model detects the resulting signal, which is finally converted to a parameter dependent SNR value. For grain diameters between 4 and 8nm, we show an increase of ~10dB for bit lengths between 4 and 12nm, an increase of ~9dB for maximum switching probabilities between 0.64 and 1.00, a decrease of ~5dB for down-track-jitter parameters between 0 and 4nm and an increase of ~1dB for reduced bit curvature. Those results are furthermore compared to the theoretical formulas for the SNR. We obtain a good agreement, even though we show slight deviations.
We present the dark matter (DM) extension (by N) of the minimal supersymmetric standard model to give the recent trend of the high energy positron spectrum of the PAMELA/HEAT experiments. If the trend survives by future experiments, the MSSM needs to be extended. Here, we minimally extend the MSSM with one more DM component N together with a heavy lepton E, and introduce the coupling e_R E_R^c N_R. This coupling naturally appears in the flipped SU(5) GUT models. This N_{DM}MSSM contains the discrete symmetry Z_6, and for some parameter ranges there result two DM components. For the MSSM fields, the conventional R-parity, which is a subgroup of Z_6, is preserved. We also present the needed parameter ranges of these additional particles.
We perform a global analysis of the low-energy phenomenology of the minimal left-right symmetric model (mLRSM) with parity symmetry. We match the mLRSM to the Standard Model Effective Field Theory Lagrangian at the left-right-symmetry breaking scale and perform a comprehensive fit to low-energy data including mesonic, neutron, and nuclear $beta$-decay processes, $Delta F=1$ and $Delta F=2$ CP-even and -odd processes in the bottom and strange sectors, and electric dipole moments (EDMs) of nucleons, nuclei, and atoms. We fit the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa and mLRSM parameters simultaneously and determine a lower bound on the mass of the right-handed $W_R$ boson. In models where a Peccei-Quinn mechanism provides a solution to the strong CP problem, we obtain $M_{W_R} gtrsim 5.5$ TeV at $95%$ C.L. which can be significantly improved with next-generation EDM experiments. In the $P$-symmetric mLRSM without a Peccei-Quinn mechanism we obtain a more stringent constraint $M_{W_R} gtrsim 17$ TeV at $95%$ C.L., which is difficult to improve with low-energy measurements alone. In all cases, the additional scalar fields of the mLRSM are required to be a few times heavier than the right-handed gauge bosons. We consider a recent discrepancy in tests of first-row unitarity of the CKM matrix. We find that, while TeV-scale $W_R$ bosons can alleviate some of the tension found in the $V_{ud,us}$ determinations, a solution to the discrepancy is disfavored when taking into account other low-energy observables within the mLRSM.
