We have optically identified a recently discovered INTEGRAL source, IGR J08390--4833, with a cataclysmic variable, i.e. an accreting white dwarf in a binary system. The spectrum exhibits a rising blue continuum together with Balmer and HeII emission lines. Analysis of the light curve of the source shows clear presence of intrinsic variability on a time scale of the order of an hour, although we do not claim that this variability is periodic. Therefore we are not yet able to classify the object into a specific CV subclass.

We present the results of our optical identifications of several hard X-ray sources from the INTEGRAL all-sky survey obtained over 14 years of observations. Having improved the positions of these objects in the sky with the X-ray telescope (XRT) of t he Swift observatory and the XMM-Newton observatory, we have identified their counterparts using optical and infrared sky survey data. We have obtained optical spectra for more than half of the objects from our sample with the RTT-150 and AZT-33IK telescopes, which have allowed us to establish the nature of the objects and to measure their redshifts. Six sources are shown to be extragalactic in origin and to belong to Seyfert 1 and 2 galaxies (IGR J01017+6519, IGR J08215-1320, IGR J08321-1808, IGR J16494-1740, IGR J17098-2344, IGR J17422-2108); we have failed to draw definitive conclusions about the nature of four more objects (IGR J11299-6557, IGR J14417-5533, IGR J18141-1823, IGR J18544+0839), but, judging by circumstantial evidence, they are most likely also extragalactic objects. For one more object (IGR J18044-1829) no unequivocal identification has been made.
We present the results of our optical identifications of four hard X-ray sources from the Swift all-sky survey. We obtained optical spectra for each of the program objects with the 6-m BTA telescope (Special Astrophysical Observatory, Russian Academy of Sciences, Nizhnii Arkhyz), which allowed their nature to be established. Two sources (SWIFT J2237.2+6324} and SWIFT J2341.0+7645) are shown to belong to the class of cataclysmic variables (suspected polars or intermediate polars). The measured emission line width turns out to be fairly large (FWHM ~ 15-25 A), suggesting the presence of extended, rapidly rotating (v~400-600 km/s) accretion disks in the systems. Apart from line broadening, we have detected a change in the positions of the line centroids for SWIFT J2341.0+7645, which is most likely attributable to the orbital motion of the white dwarf in the binary system. The other two program objects (SWIFT J0003.3+2737 and SWIFT J0113.8+2515) are extragalactic in origin: the first is a Seyfert 2 galaxy and the second is a blazar at redshift z=1.594. Apart from the optical spectra, we provide the X-ray spectra for all sources in the 0.6-10 keV energy band obtained from XRT/Swift data.
We report the discovery of a new cataclysmic variable (CV) among unidentified objects from the ASCA Galactic Plane Survey made using the Virtual Observatory data mining. First, we identified AX J194939+2631 with IPHAS J194938.39+263149.2, the only pr ominent H-alpha emitter among 400 sources in a 1 arcmin field of the IPHAS survey, then secured as a single faint X-ray source found in an archival Chandra dataset. Spectroscopic follow-up with the 3.5-m Calar Alto telescope confirmed its classification as a CV, possibly of magnetic nature. Our analysis suggests that AX J194939+2631 is a medium distance system (d ~ 0.6 kpc) containing a late-K or early-M type dwarf as a secondary component and a partially disrupted accretion disc revealed by the double-peaked H-alpha line. However, additional deep observations are needed to confirm our tentative classification of this object as an intermediate polar.
We present results of an all-sky hard X-ray survey based on almost four years of observations with the IBIS telescope on board the INTEGRAL observatory. The dead time-corrected exposure of the survey is ~33 Ms. Approximately 12% and 80% of the sky ha ve been covered to limiting fluxes lower than 1 and 5 mCrab, respectively. Our catalog of detected sources includes 400 objects, 339 of which exceed a 5 sigma detection threshold on the time-averaged map of the sky and the rest were detected in various subsamples of exposures. Among the identified sources, 213 are Galactic (87 low-mass X-ray binaries, 74 high-mass X-ray binaries, 21 cataclysmic variables, 6 coronally active stars, and other types) and 136 are extragalactic, including 131 active galactic nuclei (AGNs) and 3 clusters of galaxies. We obtained number-flux functions for AGNs and Galactic sources. The logN-logS relation of AGNs (excluding blazars) is based on 69 sources with fluxes higher than S_lim=1.1 x 10^{-11} erg/s/cm^2 (~0.8 mCrab) in the 17-60 keV energy band. The cumulative number-flux function of AGNs located at Galactic latitudes $|b|>5^circ$, where the survey is characterized by high identification completeness, can be described by a power law with a slope of 1.62 +/- 0.15 and normalization of (5.7 +/- 0.7) x 10^{-3} sources per deg^2 at fluxes >1.43 x 10^{-11} erg/s/cm^2 (>1 mCrab). AGNs with fluxes higher than S_lim make up ~1% of the cosmic X-ray background at 17-60 keV. We present evidence of strong inhomogeneity in the spatial distribution of nearby (<70 Mpc) AGNs, which reflects the large-scale structure in the local Universe.

We present time-series observations, spectra and archival outburst data of a newly-discovered variable star in Hercules, Var Her 04. Its orbital period, mass ratio, and outburst amplitude resemble those of the UGWZ-type subclass of UGSU dwarf novae. However, its supercycle and outburst light curve defy classification as a clear UGWZ. Var Her 04 is most similar to the small group of possible hydrogen-burning ``period bouncers, dwarf novae that have passed beyond the period minimum and returned.
