Using direct simulations, weakly nonlinear theory and nonlinear mean-field theory, it is shown that the quenched velocity field of a saturated nonlinear dynamo can itself act as a kinematic dynamo. The flow is driven by a forcing function that would produce a Roberts flow in the absence of a magnetic field. This result confirms an analogous finding by F. Cattaneo & S. M. Tobias (arXiv:0809.1801) for the more complicated case of turbulent convection, suggesting that this may be a common property of nonlinear dynamos; see also the talk given also online at the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics (http://online.kitp.ucsb.edu/online/dynamo_c08/cattaneo). It is argued that this property can be used to test nonlinear mean-field dynamo theories.
We consider the problem of incompressible, forced, nonhelical, homogeneous and isotropic MHD turbulence with no mean magnetic field and large magnetic Prandtl number. This type of MHD turbulence is the end state of the turbulent dynamo, which generat
We explore the MRI driven dynamo in a radiatively inefficient accretion flow (RIAF) using the mean field dynamo paradigm. Using singular value decomposition (SVD) we obtain the least squares fitting dynamo coefficients $alpha$ and $gamma$ by comparin
Context: Observations indicate that the `quiet solar photosphere outside active regions contains considerable amounts of magnetic energy and magnetic flux, with mixed polarity on small scales. The origin of this flux is unclear. Aims: We test whether
Small-scale turbulent dynamo is responsible for the amplification of magnetic fields on scales smaller than the driving scale of turbulence in diverse astrophysical media. Most earlier dynamo theories concern the kinematic regime and small-scale magn
The failure of the laser-interferometer gravitational wave antennas to measure the tiny changes of lengths many orders of magnitude smaller than the diameter of a proton raises the question of whether the reason for this failure is a large gravitatio
