We show that the holographic principle in quantum gravity imposes a strong constraint on life. The degrees of freedom of an organism can be estimated according to the theory of Boolean networks, which is constrained by the entropy bound. Hence we can explain the languages in protein sequences or in DNA sequences. The overall evolution of biological complexity can be illustrated. And some general properties of protein length distributions can be explained by a linguistic mechanism.

A scenario is proposed in which the matter-antimatter asymmetry behaves like a seed for the inflationary phase of the universe. The mechanism which makes this scenario plausible is the holographic principle: this scheme is supported by a good predict ion of the number of e-folds. It seems that such a mechanism can only work in the presence of a Hagedorn-like phase transition. The issue of the graceful exit can also be naturally accounted for.
We discuss, from a quantum information perspective, recent proposals of Maldacena, Ryu, Takayanagi, van Raamsdonk, Swingle, and Susskind that spacetime is an emergent property of the quantum entanglement of an associated boundary quantum system. We r eview the idea that the informational principle of minimal complexity determines a dual holographic bulk spacetime from a minimal quantum circuit U preparing a given boundary state from a trivial reference state. We describe how this idea may be extended to determine the relationship between the fluctuations of the bulk holographic geometry and the fluctuations of the boundary low-energy subspace. In this way we obtain, for every quantum system, an Einstein-like equation of motion for what might be interpreted as a bulk gravity theory dual to the boundary system.
We study general aspects of active motion with fluctuations in the speed and the direction of motion in two dimensions. We consider the case in which fluctuations in the speed are not correlated to fluctuations in the direction of motion, and assume that both processes can be described by independent characteristic time-scales. We show the occurrence of a complex transient that can exhibit a series of alternating regimes of motion, for two different angular dynamics which correspond to persistent and directed random walks. We also show additive corrections to the diffusion coefficient. The characteristic time-scales are also exposed in the velocity autocorrelation, which is a sum of exponential forms.
From the starting point of the well known Reynolds number of fluid turbulence we propose a control parameter $R$ for a wider class of systems including avalanche models that show Self Organized Criticality (SOC) and ecosystems. $R$ is related to the driving and dissipation rates and from similarity analysis we obtain a relationship $Rsim N^{beta_N}$ where $N$ is the number of degrees of freedom. The value of the exponent $beta_N$ is determined by detailed phenomenology but its sign follows from our similarity analysis. For SOC, $R=h/epsilon$ and we show that $beta_N<0$ hence we show independent of the details that the transition to SOC is when $R to 0$, in contrast to fluid turbulence, formalizing the relationship between turbulence (since $beta_N >0$, $R to infty$) and SOC ($R=h/epsilonto 0$). A corollary is that SOC phenomenology, that is, power law scaling of avalanches, can persist for finite $R$ with unchanged exponent if the system supports a sufficiently large range of lengthscales; necessary for SOC to be a candidate for physical systems. We propose a conceptual model ecosystem where $R$ is an observable parameter which depends on the rate of throughput of biomass or energy; we show this has $beta_N>0$, so that increasing $R$ increases the abundance of species, pointing to a critical value for species explosion.

It is likely that the holographic principle will be a consequence of the would be theory of quantum gravity. Thus, it is interesting to try to go in the opposite direction: can the holographic principle fix the gravitational interaction? It is shown that the classical gravitational interaction is well inside the set of potentials allowed by the holographic principle. Computations clarify which role such a principle could have in lowering the value of the cosmological constant computed in QFT to the observed one.
