We investigate the response of dense and hot holographic QCD (hQCD) to a static and baryonic electric field E using the chiral model of Sakai and Sugimoto. Strong fields with E>(sqrtlambda M_{KK})^2 free quark pairs, causing the confined vacuum and matter state to decay. We generalize Schwingers QED persistence function to dense hQCD. At high temperature and density, Ohms law is derived generalizing a recent result by Karch and OBannon to the chiral case.

We study baryons and baryonic matter in holographic QCD using a D4/D8/$bar{rm D8}$ multi-D-brane system in the superstring theory. We obtain the chiral soliton solution for baryons in the four-dimensional meson theory derived from the multi-D-brane s ystem. For the analysis of finite baryon-density matter, we investigate the chiral soliton on $S^3$ in holographic QCD, and find the delocalization of the soliton, i.e., the swelling of baryons in dense matter.
We investigate the phase diagram of QCD-like gauge theories at strong coupling at finite magnetic field $B$, temperature $T$ and baryon chemical potential $mu$ using the improved holographic QCD model including the full backreaction of the quarks in the plasma. In addition to the phase diagram we study the behavior of the quark condensate as a function of $T$, $B$ and $mu$ and discuss the fate of (inverse) magnetic catalysis at finite $mu$. In particular we observe that inverse magnetic catalysis exists only for small values of the baryon chemical potential. The speed of sound in this holographic quark-gluon plasma exhibits interesting dependence on the thermodynamic parameters.

We investigate cold dense matter in the context of Sakai and Sugimotos holographic model of QCD in the Wigner-Seitz approximation. In bulk, baryons are treated as instantons on S^3times R^1 in each Wigner-Seitz cell. In holographic QCD, Skyrmions are instanton holonomies along the conformal direction. The high density phase is identified with a crystal of holographic Skyrmions with restored chiral symmetry at about 4 Mkk^3/pi^5. As the average density goes up, it approaches to uniform distribution while the chiral condensate approaches to p-wave over a cell. The chiral symmetry is effectively restored in long wavelength limit since the chiral order parameter is averaged to be zero over a cell. The energy density in dense medium varies as n_B^{5/3}, which is the expected power for non-relativistic fermion. This shows that the Pauli exclusion effect in boundary is encoded in the Coulomb repulsion in the bulk.
We present a five-dimensional fully anisotropic holographic model for heavy quarks supported by Einstein-dilaton-three-Maxwell action; one of the Maxwell fields is related to an external magnetic field. Influence of the external magnetic field on the 5-dim black hole solution and the confinement/deconfinement phase diagram is considered. The effect of the inverse magnetic catalyses is revealed and positions of critical end points are found.
In this paper we study the dynamical instability of Sakai-Sugimotos holographic QCD model at finite baryon density. In this model, the baryon density, represented by the smeared instanton on the worldvolume of the probe D8-overline{D8} mesonic brane, sources the worldvolume electric field, and through the Chern-Simons term it will induces the instability to form a chiral helical wave. This is similar to Deryagin-Grigoriev-Rubakov instability to form the chiral density wave for large N_c QCD at finite density. Our results show that this kind of instability occurs for sufficiently high baryon number densities. The phase diagram of holographic QCD will thus be changed from the one which is based only on thermodynamics. This holographic approach provides an effective way to study the phases of QCD at finite density, where the conventional perturbative QCD and lattice simulation fail.
