Boundaries occur naturally in kinetic equations and boundary effects are crucial for dynamics of dilute gases governed by the Boltzmann equation. We develop a mathematical theory to study the time decay and continuity of Boltzmann solutions for four basic types of boundary conditions: inflow, bounce-back reflection, specular reflection, and diffuse reflection. We establish exponential decay in $L^{infty}$ norm for hard potentials for general classes of smooth domains near an absolute Maxwellian. Moreover, in convex domains, we also establish continuity for these Boltzmann solutions away from the grazing set of the velocity at the boundary. Our contribution is based on a new $L^{2}$ decay theory and its interplay with delicate $% L^{infty}$ decay analysis for the linearized Boltzmann equation, in the presence of many repeated interactions with the boundary.

We derive a diffusion approximation for the kinetic Vlasov-Fokker-Planck equation in bounded spatial domains with specular reflection type boundary conditions. The method of proof involves the construction of a particular class of test functions to b e chosen in the weak formulation of the kinetic model. This involves the analysis of the underlying Hamiltonian dynamics of the kinetic equation coupled with the reflection laws at the boundary. This approach only demands the solution family to be weakly compact in some weighted Hilbert space rather than the much tricky $mathrm L^1$ setting.
Let $u(t,x)$ be a solution of the heat equation in $mathbb{R}^n$. Then, each $k-$th derivative also solves the heat equation and satisfies a maximum principle, the largest $k-$th derivative of $u(t,x)$ cannot be larger than the largest $k-$th derivat ive of $u(0,x)$. We prove an analogous statement for the solution of the heat equation on bounded domains $Omega subset mathbb{R}^n$ with Dirichlet boundary conditions. As an application, we give a new and fairly elementary proof of the sharp growth of the second derivatives of Laplacian eigenfunction $-Delta phi_k = lambda_k phi_k$ with Dirichlet conditions on smooth domains $Omega subset mathbb{R}^n$.

In this article, we study the decay of the solutions of Schrodinger equations in the exterior of an obstacle. The main situations we are interested in are the general case (no non-trapping assumptions) or some weakly trapping situations
The purpose of the present paper is to establish the local energy decay estimates and dispersive estimates for 3-dimensional wave equation with a potential to the initial-boundary value problem on exterior domains. The geometrical assumptions on doma ins are rather general, for example non-trapping condition is not imposed in the local energy decay result. As a by-product, Strichartz estimates is obtained too.

In this paper we study a sharp Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev (HLS) type inequality with Riesz potential on bounded smooth domains. We obtain the inequality for a general bounded domain $Omega$ and show that if the extension constant for $Omega$ is strictl y larger than the extension constant for the unit ball $B_1$ then extremal functions exist. Using suitable test functions we show that this criterion is satisfied by an annular domain whose hole is sufficiently small. The construction of the test functions is not based on any positive mass type theorems, neither on the nonflatness of the boundary. By using a similar choice of test functions with the Poisson-kernel-based extension operator we prove the existence of an abstract domain having zero scalar curvature and strictly larger isoperimetric constant than that of the Euclidean ball.
