We have performed $^{69,71}$Ga nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) and muon spin rotation/resonance on the quasi two-dimensional antiferromagnet (AFM) NiGa$_2$S$_4$, in order to investigate its spin dynamics and magnetic state at low temperatures. Although there exists only one crystallographic site for Ga in NiGa$_2$S$_4$, we found two distinct Ga signals by NMR and NQR. The origin of the two Ga signals is not fully understood, but possibly due to stacking faults along the c axis which induce additional broad Ga NMR and NQR signals with different local symmetries. We found the novel spin freezing occurring at $T_{rm f}$, at which the specific heat shows a maximum, from a clear divergent behavior of the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate $1/T_{1}$ and nuclear spin-spin relaxation rate $1/T_{2}$ measured by Ga-NQR as well as the muon spin relaxation rate $lambda$. The main sharp NQR peaks exhibit a stronger tendency of divergence, compared with the weak broader spectral peaks, indicating that the spin freezing is intrinsic in NiGa$_2$S$_4$. The behavior of these relaxation rates strongly suggests that the Ni spin fluctuations slow down towards $T_{rm f}$, and the temperature range of the divergence is anomalously wider than that in a conventional magnetic ordering. A broad structureless spectrum and multi-component $T_1$ were observed below 2 K, indicating that a static magnetic state with incommensurate magnetic correlations or inhomogeneously distributed moments is realized at low temperatures. However, the wide temperature region between 2 K and $T_{rm f}$, where the NQR signal was not observed, suggests that the Ni spins do not freeze immediately below $T_{rm f}$, but keep fluctuating down to 2 K with the MHz frequency range.

$^{75}$As nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) measurements have been carried out to investigate the magnetic and electronic properties of the filled skutterudite metallic compound SrFe$_4$As$_{12}$. The temperature dependence of Knight shift $K$ determined by the NQR spectrum under a small magnetic field ($le$ 0.5 T) shows the similar temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility $chi$ which exhibits a broad maximum at $T^ast$ $sim$ 50 K. The nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate divided by temperature, 1/$T_1T$, increases with decreasing temperature and exhibits a broad maximum at $T$ $sim$ 70 K, similar to the case of $chi$. The temperature dependence of $K$ and $1/T_1T$ is reasonably explained by a simple model where we assume a concave-shaped band structure near the Fermi energy. Based on a Korringa ratio analysis using the $T_1$ and $K$ data, ferromagnetic spin fluctuations are found to exist in SrFe$_4$As$_{12}$. These results indicate that SrFe$_4$As$_{12}$ can be characterized to be a metal with ferromagnetic correlations and also the peculiar band structure responsible for the suppression of $1/T_1T$ and $K$ at low temperatures.
Filled skutterudite compound EuFe$_4$As$_{12}$ shows the highest magnetic ordering temperature of $T_{rm C}$ = 154 K among Eu-based skutterudite compounds, but its magnetic ground state has not been determined yet. Here, we performed $^{153}$Eu nucle ar magnetic resonance (NMR) and $^{75}$As nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) measurements on EuFe$_4$As$_{12}$ to reveal its magnetic ground state as well as the physical properties from a microscopic point of view. From the temperature and magnetic field dependence of $^{153}$Eu NMR spectrum in the magnetically ordered state, we found that the Eu ions are in Eu$^{2+}$ state with a nearly 7 $mu_{rm B}$ corresponding to $S$ = 7/2 spins. Combined with the magnetization measurements which show the reduced saturation moments of 4.5 $mu_{rm B}$/f.u., we determined the ground magnetic structure in EuFe$_4$As$_{12}$ to be ferrimagnetic where the Eu$^{2+}$ 4$f$ and the Fe 3$d$ ordered moments are ferromagnetically aligned in each sublattice but the moments between the sublattices are antiferromagnetically aligned. We also found the local distortion at the Eu site from the cubic symmetry in the magnetically ordered state. The relationship between the rattling motion of Eu atoms and the local symmetry of the Eu ions is discussed. From the $^{75}$As NQR nuclear spin-lattice relaxation time measurements as well as $^{153}$Eu NMR measurements, we found that the 4$f$ electrons of the Eu ions are well described by the local moment picture in both the magnetic and paramagnetic metallic states.
A new pyrochlore compound, NaCaNi$_2$F$_7$, was recently synthesized and has a single magnetic site with spin-1 Ni$^{2+}$. We present zero field (ZF) and longitudinal field (LF) muon spin rotation ($mu$SR) measurements on this pyrochlore. Density fun ctional theory (DFT) calculations show that the most likely muon site is located between two fluorine ions, but off-centre. A characteristic F-$mu$-F muon spin polarization function is observed at high temperatures where Ni spin fluctuations are sufficiently rapid. The Ni$^{2+}$ spins undergo spin freezing into a disordered ground state below 4~K, with a characteristic internal field strength of 140~G. Persistent Ni spin dynamics are present to our lowest temperatures (75~mK), a feature characteristic of many geometrically frustrated magnetic systems.
Motivated by the recent observation of ferromagnetic spin correlations in the filled skutterudite SrFe$_4$As$_{12}$ [Ding et al., Phys. Rev. B 98, 155149 (2018)], we have carried out $^{75}$As nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and nuclear quadrupole r esonance (NQR) measurements to investigate the role of magnetic fluctuations in a newly discovered isostructural superconductor SrOs$_4$As$_{12}$ with a superconducting transition temperature of $T_{rm c}$ $sim$ 4.8 K. Knight shift $K$ determined by the NQR spectrum under a small magnetic field ($le$ 0.5 T) is nearly independent of temperature, consistent with the temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility. The nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate divided by temperature, 1/$T_1T$, is nearly independent of temperature above $sim$ 50 K and increases slightly with decreasing temperature below the temperature. The temperature dependence is reasonably explained by a simple model where a flat band structure with a small ledge near the Fermi energy is assumed. By comparing the present NMR data with those in SrFe$_4$As$_{12}$, we found that the values of $|K|$ and $1/T_1T$ in SrOs$_4$As$_{12}$ are smaller than those in SrFe$_4$As$_{12}$, indicating no obvious ferromagnetic spin correlations in SrOs$_4$As$_{12}$. From the temperature dependence of 1/$T_1$ in the superconducting state, an $s$-wave superconductivity is realized.
We report the properties of a triangular lattice iron-chalcogenide antiferromagnet FeAl$_{2}$Se$_{4}$. The spin susceptibility reveals a significant antiferromagnetic interaction with a Curie-Weiss temperature {Theta}$_{CW}$ ~ -200K and a spin-2 loca l moment. Despite a large spin and a large |{Theta}$_{CW}$|, the low-temperature behaviors are incompatible with conventional classical magnets. No long-range order is detected down to 0.4K. Similar to the well-known spin-1 magnet NiGa$_{2}$S$_{4}$, the specific heat of FeAl$_{2}$Se$_{4}$ exhibits an unusual double-peak structure and a T$^{2}$ power law at low temperatures, which are attributed to the underlying quadrupolar spin correlations and the Halperin-Saslow modes, respectively. The spin freezing occurs at ~ 14K, below which the relaxation dynamics is probed by the ac susceptibility. Our results are consistent with the early theory for the spin-1 system with Heisenberg and biquadratic spin interactions. We argue that the early proposal of the quadrupolar correlation and gauge glass dynamics may be well extended to FeAl$_{2}$Se$_{4}$. Our results provide useful insights about the magnetic properties of frustrated quantum magnets with high spins.
