We calculate the effective potential of a strong magnetic field induced by fermions with anomalous magnetic moments which couple to the electromagnetic field in the form of the Pauli interaction. For a uniform magnetic field, we find the explicit form of the effective potential. It is found that the non-vanishing imaginary part develops for a magnetic field stronger than a critical field and has a quartic form which is quite different from the exponential form of the Schwinger process. We also consider a linear magnetic field configuration as an example of inhomogeneous magnetic fields. We find that the imaginary part of the effective potential is nonzero even below the critical field and shows an exponentially decreasing behavior with respect to the inverse of the magnetic field gradient, which is the non-perturbative characteristics analogous to the Schwinger process. These results imply the instability of the strong magnetic field to produce fermion pairs as a purely magnetic effect. The possible applications to the astrophysical phenomena with strong magnetic field are also discussed.

We calculate the production rate of neutral fermions in linear magnetic fields through the Pauli interaction. It is found that the production rate is exponentially decreasing function with respect to the inverse of the magnetic field gradient, which shows the non-perturbative characteristics analogous to the Schwinger process. It turns out that the production rate density depends on both the gradient and the strength of magnetic fields in 3+1 dimension. It is quite different from the result in 2+1 dimension, where the production rate depends only on the gradient of the magnetic fields, not on the strength of the magnetic fields. It is also found that the production of neutral fermions through the Pauli interaction is a magnetic effect whereas the production of charged particles through minimal coupling is an electric effect.
To measure and control the electron motion in atoms and molecules by the strong laser field on the attosecond time scale is one of the research frontiers of atomic and molecular photophysics. It involves many new phenomena and processes and raises a series of questions of concepts, theories and methods. Recent studies show that the Coulomb potential can cause the ionization time lag (about 100 attoseconds) between instants of the field maximum and the ionization-rate maximum. This lag can be understood as the response time of the electronic wave function to the strong-field-induced ionization event. It has a profound influence on the subsequent ultrafast dynamics of the ionized electron and can significantly change the time-frequency properties of electron trajectory (an important theoretical tool for attosecond measurement). Here, the research progress of response time and its implications on attosecond measurement are briefly introduced.
We present a quantitative study of the $ u N$ cross section in the neutrino energy range $10^4<E_{ u}<10^{14}$ GeV within two transversal QCD approaches: NLO DGLAP evolution using different sets of PDFs and BK small-$x$ evolution with running couplin g and kinematical corrections. We show that the non-linear effects embodied in the BK equation yield a slower raise in the cross section for $E_{ u}gtrsim 10^{8}$ GeV than the usual DGLAP based calculation. Finally, we translate this theoretical uncertainty into upper bounds for the ultra-high-energy neutrino flux for different experiments.
We construct the grand partition function of the system of chiral fermions in a uniform magnetic field from Landau levels, through which all thermodynamic quantities can be obtained. Taking use of Abel-Plana formula, these thermodynamic quantities ca n be expanded as series with respect to a dimensionless variable $b=2eB/T^{2}$. We find that the series expansions of energy density, pressure, magnetization intensity and magnetic susceptibility contain a singular term with $ln b^{2}$, while particle number density, entropy density and heat capacity are power series of $b^{2}$. The asymptotic behaviors of these thermodynamic quantities in extreme conditions are also discussed.

The non-abelian Higgs (NAH) theory is studied in a strong magnetic field. For simplicity, we study the SU(2) NAH theory with the Higgs triplet in a constant strong magnetic field $vec B$, where the lowest-Landau-level (LLL) approximation can be used. Without magnetic fields, charged vector fields $A_mu^pm$ have a large mass $M$ due to Higgs condensation, while the photon field $A_mu$ remains to be massless. In a strong constant magnetic field near and below the critical value $eB_c equiv M^2$, the charged vector fields $A_mu^pm$ behave as 1+1-dimensional quasi-massless fields, and give a strong correlation along the magnetic-field direction between off-diagonal charges coupled with $A_mu^pm$. This may lead a new type of confinement caused by charged vector fields $A_mu^pm$.
