We compare and contrast three different perturbative expansions for the quartic anharmonic oscillator wavefunction and apply a modified Borel summation technique to determine the energy eigenvalues. In the first two expansions this provides the energy eigenvalues directly however in the third method we tune the wavefunctions to achieve the correct large x behaviour. This tuning technique allows us to determine the energy eigenvalues up to an arbitrary level of accuracy with remarkable efficiency. We give numerical evidence to explain this behaviour. We also refine the modified Borel summation technique to improve its accuracy. The main sources of error are investigated with reasonable error corrections calculated.

We show that the Mellin summation technique (MST) is a well defined and useful tool to compute loop integrals at finite temperature in the imaginary-time formulation of thermal field theory, especially when interested in the infrared limit of such in tegrals. The method makes use of the Feynman parametrization which has been claimed to have problems when the analytical continuation from discrete to arbitrary complex values of the Matsubara frequency is performed. We show that without the use of the MST, such problems are not intrinsic to the Feynman parametrization but instead, they arise as a result of (a) not implementing the periodicity brought about by the possible values taken by the discrete Matsubara frequencies before the analytical continuation is made and (b) to the changing of the original domain of the Feynman parameter integration, which seemingly simplifies the expression but in practice introduces a spurious endpoint singularity. Using the MST, there are no problems related to the implementation of the periodicity but instead, care has to be taken when the sum of denominators of the original amplitude vanishes. We apply the method to the computation of loop integrals appearing when the effects of external weak magnetic fields on the propagation of scalar particles is considered.

The heat kernel expansion on even-dimensional hyperbolic spaces is asymptotic at both short and long times, with interestingly different Borel properties for these short and long time expansions. Resummations in terms of incomplete gamma functions pr ovide accurate extrapolations and analytic continuations, relating the heat kernel to the Schrodinger kernel, and the heat kernel on hyperbolic space to the heat kernel on spheres. For the diagonal heat kernel there is also a duality between short and long times which mixes the scalar and spinor heat kernels.
This paper examines the nature of classical correspondence in the case of coherent states at the level of quantum trajectories. We first show that for a harmonic oscillator, the coherent state complex quantum trajectories and the complex classical tr ajectories are identical to each other. This congruence in the complex plane, not restricted to high quantum numbers alone, illustrates that the harmonic oscillator in a coherent state executes classical motion. The quantum trajectories are those conceived in a modified de Broglie-Bohm scheme and we note that identical classical and quantum trajectories for coherent states are obtained only in the present approach. The study is extended to Gazeau-Klauder and SUSY quantum mechanics-based coherent states of a particle in an infinite potential well and that in a symmetric Poschl-Teller (PT) potential by solving for the trajectories numerically. For the coherent state of the infinite potential well, almost identical classical and quantum trajectories are obtained whereas for the PT potential, though classical trajectories are not regained, a periodic motion results as t --> infty.

We consider a classical fermion and a classical scalar, propagating on two different kinds of 4-dimensional diffeomorphism breaking gravity backgrounds, and we derive the one-loop effective dispersion relation for matter, after integrating out gravit ons. One gravity model involves quadratic divergences at one-loop, as in Einstein gravity, and the other model is the $z=3$ non-projectable Horava-Lifshitz gravity, which involves logarithmic divergences only. Although these two models behave differently in the UV, the IR phenomenology for matter fields is comparable: {it(i)} for generic values for the parameters, both models identify $10^{10}$ GeV as the typical characteristic scale above which they are not consistent with current upper bounds on Lorentz symmetry violation; {it(ii)} on the other hand there is always, for both models, a fine-tuning of parameters which allows the cancellation of the indicator for Lorentz symmetry violation.

We theoretically propose an experimentally viable scheme to use an impurity atom in a dipolar Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC), in order to probe analogue low-energy Lorentz violation from the modified dispersion at high energies as suggested by quantu m theories of gravity. We show that the density fluctuations in the dipolar BEC possess a Lorentz-violating Bogoliubov spectrum $omega_mathbf{k}=c_0|mathbf{k}|f(c_0|mathbf{k}|/M_star)$, with recovery of approximate Lorentz invariance (LI) at energy scales much below $M_star$. When $f$ is adjusted to dip below unity somewhere, the impurity, analogously dipole coupled to the density fluctuations, experiences analogue drastic Lorentz violation at arbitrarily low energies, reproducing the same responds of Unruh-DeWitt detector to Lorentz-violating quantum fields. Being a fundamentally quantum mechanical device, our quantum fluid platform provides an experimentally realizable test field to verify whether the effective low energy theory can reveal unexpected imprints of the theorys high energy structure, in quantum field theory.
