This paper considers the problem of secure coding design for a type II wiretap channel, where the main channel is noiseless and the eavesdropper channel is a general binary-input symmetric-output memoryless channel. The proposed secure error-correcting code has a nested code structure. Two secure nested coding schemes are studied for a type II Gaussian wiretap channel. The nesting is based on cosets of a good code sequence for the first scheme and on cosets of the dual of a good code sequence for the second scheme. In each case, the corresponding achievable rate-equivocation pair is derived based on the threshold behavior of good code sequences. The two secure coding schemes together establish an achievable rate-equivocation region, which almost covers the secrecy capacity-equivocation region in this case study. The proposed secure coding scheme is extended to a type II binary symmetric wiretap channel. A new achievable perfect secrecy rate, which improves upon the previously reported result by Thangaraj et al., is derived for this channel.

We propose a new scheme of wiretap lattice coding that achieves semantic security and strong secrecy over the Gaussian wiretap channel. The key tool in our security proof is the flatness factor which characterizes the convergence of the conditional o utput distributions corresponding to different messages and leads to an upper bound on the information leakage. We not only introduce the notion of secrecy-good lattices, but also propose the {flatness factor} as a design criterion of such lattices. Both the modulo-lattice Gaussian channel and the genuine Gaussian channel are considered. In the latter case, we propose a novel secrecy coding scheme based on the discrete Gaussian distribution over a lattice, which achieves the secrecy capacity to within a half nat under mild conditions. No textit{a priori} distribution of the message is assumed, and no dither is used in our proposed schemes.
Uncertain wiretap channels are introduced. Their zero-error secrecy capacity is defined. If the sensor-estimator channel is perfect, it is also calculated. Further properties are discussed. The problem of estimating a dynamical system with nonstochas tic disturbances is studied where the sensor is connected to the estimator and an eavesdropper via an uncertain wiretap channel. The estimator should obtain a uniformly bounded estimation error whereas the eavesdroppers error should tend to infinity. It is proved that the system can be estimated securely if the zero-error capacity of the sensor-estimator channel is strictly larger than the logarithm of the systems unstable pole and the zero-error secrecy capacity of the uncertain wiretap channel is positive.
This work concerns the behavior of good (capacity achieving) codes in several multi-user settings in the Gaussian regime, in terms of their minimum mean-square error (MMSE) behavior. The settings investigated in this context include the Gaussian wire tap channel, the Gaussian broadcast channel (BC) and the Gaussian BC with confidential messages (BCC). In particular this work addresses the effects of transmitting such codes on unintended receivers, that is, receivers that neither require reliable decoding of the transmitted messages nor are they eavesdroppers that must be kept ignorant, to some extent, of the transmitted message. This work also examines the effect on the capacity region that occurs when we limit the allowed disturbance in terms of MMSE on some unintended receiver. This trade-off between the capacity region and the disturbance constraint is given explicitly for the Gaussian BC and the secrecy capacity region of the Gaussian BCC.
We consider the problem of secure distributed matrix multiplication. Coded computation has been shown to be an effective solution in distributed matrix multiplication, both providing privacy against workers and boosting the computation speed by effic iently mitigating stragglers. In this work, we present a non-direct secure extension of the recently introduced bivariate polynomial codes. Bivariate polynomial codes have been shown to be able to further speed up distributed matrix multiplication by exploiting the partial work done by the stragglers rather than completely ignoring them while reducing the upload communication cost and/or the workers storages capacity needs. We show that, especially for upload communication or storage constrained settings, the proposed approach reduces the average computation time of secure distributed matrix multiplication compared to its competitors in the literature.
In this paper we consider the secure transmission in fast Rayleigh fading channels with full knowledge of the main channel and only the statistics of the eavesdroppers channel state information at the transmitter. For the multiple-input, single-outpu t, single-antenna eavesdropper systems, we generalize Goel and Negis celebrated artificial-noise (AN) assisted beamforming, which just selects the directions to transmit AN heuristically. Our scheme may inject AN to the direction of the message, which outperforms Goel and Negis scheme where AN is only injected in the directions orthogonal to the main channel. The ergodic secrecy rate of the proposed AN scheme can be represented by a highly simplified power allocation problem. To attain it, we prove that the optimal transmission scheme for the message bearing signal is a beamformer, which is aligned to the direction of the legitimate channel. After characterizing the optimal eigenvectors of the covariance matrices of signal and AN, we also provide the necessary condition for transmitting AN in the main channel to be optimal. Since the resulting secrecy rate is a non-convex power allocation problem, we develop an algorithm to efficiently solve it. Simulation results show that our generalized AN scheme outperforms Goel and Negis, especially when the quality of legitimate channel is much worse than that of eavesdroppers. In particular, the regime with non-zero secrecy rate is enlarged, which can significantly improve the connectivity of the secure network when the proposed AN assisted beamforming is applied.
