We study the magnetoresistance, deltarho_{xx}(B)/rho_0, of a high-mobility 2D electron gas in the domain of magnetic fields, B, intermediate between the weak localization and the Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations, where deltarho_{xx}(B)/rho_0 is governed by the interaction effects. Assuming short-range impurity scattering, we demonstrate that in the {em second order} in the interaction parameter, $lambda$, a {em linear} B-dependence, deltarho_{xx}(B)/rho_0sim lambda^2omega_c/E_F with {em temperature-independent} slope emerges in this domain of B (here omega_c and E_F are the cyclotron frequency and the Fermi energy, respectively). Unlike previous mechanisms, the linear magnetoresistance is {em unrelated} to the electron executing the full Larmour circle, but rather originates from the impurity scattering via the B-dependence of the {em phase} of the impurity-induced Friedel oscillations.

We report the observation of Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations in the underdoped cuprate superconductor YBa$_2$Cu$_4$O$_8$ (Y124). For field aligned along the c-axis, the frequency of the oscillations is $660pm 30$ T, which corresponds to $sim 2.4$ % of the total area of the first Brillouin zone. The effective mass of the quasiparticles on this orbit is measured to be $2.7pm0.3$ times the free electron mass. Both the frequency and mass are comparable to those recently observed for ortho-II YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{6.5}$ (Y123-II). We show that although small Fermi surface pockets may be expected from band structure calculations in Y123-II, no such pockets are predicted for Y124. Our results therefore imply that these small pockets are a generic feature of the copper oxide plane in underdoped cuprates.
We study Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations in a p-type WSe$_2$ monolayer under very high magnetic field. The oscillation pattern is complex due to a large spin and valley splitting, in the non-fully-resolved Landau level regime. Our experimental data ca n be reproduced with a model in which the main parameter is the ratio between the Zeeman energy and the cyclotron energy. The model takes into account the Landau levels from both valleys with the same Gaussian broadening, which allows to predict the relative amplitude of the resistance oscillation originating from each valley. The Zeeman energy is found to be several times larger than the cyclotron energy. It translates into a large and increasing effective Lande factor as the hole density decreases, in the continuity of the values reported in the literature at lower carrier density.
We report measurements of Shubnikov-de Haas (SdH) oscillations in single crystals of BiTeCl at magnetic fields up to 31 T and at temperatures as low as 0.4 K. Two oscillation frequencies were resolved at the lowest temperatures, $F_{1}=65 pm 4$ Tesla and $F_{2}=156 pm 5$ Tesla. We also measured the infrared optical reflectance $left(cal R(omega)right)$ and Hall effect; we propose that the two frequencies correspond respectively to the inner and outer Fermi sheets of the Rashba spin-split bulk conduction band. The bulk carrier concentration was $n_{e}approx1times10^{19}$ cm$^{-3}$ and the effective masses $m_{1}^{*}=0.20 m_{0}$ for the inner and $m_{2}^{*}=0.27 m_{0}$ for the outer sheet. Surprisingly, despite its low effective mass, we found that the amplitude of $F_{2}$ is very rapidly suppressed with increasing temperature, being almost undetectable above $Tapprox4$ K.
We report polarization-resolved resonant reflection spectroscopy of a charge-tunable atomically-thin valley semiconductor hosting tightly bound excitons coupled to a dilute system of fully spin- and valley-polarized holes in the presence of a strong magnetic field. We find that exciton-hole interactions manifest themselves in hole-density dependent, Shubnikov-de Haas-like oscillations in the energy and line broadening of the excitonic resonances. These oscillations are evidenced to be precisely correlated with the occupation of Landau levels, thus demonstrating that strong interactions between the excitons and Landau-quantized itinerant carriers enable optical investigation of quantum-Hall physics in transition metal dichalcogenides.
Using very-high mobility GaAs/AlGaAs 2D electron Hall bar samples, we have experimentally studied the photoresistance/photovoltaic oscillations induced by microwave irradiation in the regime where both 1/B and B-periodic oscillations can be observed. In the frequency range between 27 and 130 GHz we found that these two types of oscillations are decoupled from each other, consistent with the respective models that 1/B oscillations occur in bulk while the B-oscillations occur along the edges of the Hall bars. In contrast to the original report of this phenomenon (Ref. 1) the periodicity of the B-oscillations in our samples are found to be independent of L, the length of the Hall bar section between voltage measuring leads.
