The frequency-based method is the most commonly used method for measuring cable tension. However, the calculation formulas for the conventional frequency-based method are generally based on the ideally hinged or fixed boundary conditions without a comprehensive consideration of the inclination angle, sag-extensibility, and flexural stiffness of cables, leading to a significant error in cable tension identification. This study aimed to propose a frequency-based method of cable tension identification considering the complex boundary conditions at the two ends of cables using the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. First, the refined stay cable model was established considering the inclination angle, flexural stiffness, and sag-extensibility, as well as the rotational constraint stiffness and lateral support stiffness for the unknown boundaries of cables. The vibration mode equation of the stay cable model was discretized and solved using the finite difference method. Then, a multiparameter identification method based on the PSO algorithm was proposed. This method was able to identify the tension, flexural stiffness, axial stiffness, boundary rotational constraint stiffness, and boundary lateral support stiffness according to the measured multiorder frequencies in a synchronous manner. The feasibility and accuracy of this method were validated through numerical cases. Finally, the proposed approach was applied to the tension identification of the anchor span strands of a suspension bridge (Jindong Bridge) in China. The results of cable tension identification using the proposed method and the existing methods discussed in previous studies were compared with the on-site pressure ring measurement results. The comparison showed that the proposed approach had a high accuracy in cable tension identification.

The paper is concerned with the finite-time stabilization of a hybrid PDE-ODE system describing the motion of an overhead crane with a flexible cable. The dynamics of the flexible cable is described by the wave equation with a variable coefficient wh ich is an affine function of the curvilinear abscissa along the cable. Using several changes of variables, a backstepping transformation, and a finite-time stable second-order ODE for the dynamics of a conveniently chosen variable, we prove that a global finite-time stabilization occurs for the full system constituted of the platform and the cable. The kernel equations and the finite-time stable ODE are numerically solved in order to compute the nonlinear feedback law, and numerical simulations validating our finite-time stabilization approach are presented.
The surprisingly popular algorithm (SPA) is a powerful crowd decision model proposed in social science, which can identify the knowledge possessed in of the minority. We have modelled the SPA to select the exemplars in PSO scenarios and proposed the Surprisingly Popular Algorithm-based Comprehensive Adaptive Topology Learning Particle Swarm Optimization. Due to the significant influence of the communication topology on exemplar selection, we propose an adaptive euclidean distance dynamic topology maintenance. And then we propose the Surprisingly Popular Algorithm-based Adaptive Euclidean Distance Topology Learning Particle Swarm Optimization (SpadePSO), which use SPA to guide the direction of the exploitation sub-population. We analyze the influence of different topologies on the SPA. We evaluate the proposed SpadePSO on the full CEC2014 benchmark suite, the spread spectrum radar polyphase coding design and the ordinary differential equations models inference. The experimental results on the full CEC2014 benchmark suite show that the SpadePSO is competitive with PSO, OLPSO, HCLPSO, GL-PSO, TSLPSO and XPSO. The mean and standard deviation of SpadePSO are lower than the other PSO variants on the spread spectrum radar polyphase coding design. Finally, the ordinary differential equations models inference results show that SpadePSO performs better than LatinPSO, specially designed for this problem. SpadePSO has lower requirements for population number than LatinPSO.
One of the most prevalent causes of bridge failure around the world is scour, the gradual erosion of soil around a bridge foundation due to fast-flowing water. A reliable technique for monitoring scour would help bridge engineers take timely counterm easures to safeguard against failure. Although vibration-based techniques for monitoring structural damage have had limited success, primarily due to insufficient sensitivity, these have tended to focus on the detection of local damage. High natural frequency sensitivity has recently been reported for scour damage. Previous experiments to investigate this have been limited as a result of the cost of full-scale testing and the fact that scaled-down soil structure models tested outside a centrifuge do not adequately simulate full-scale behaviour. This paper describes the development of what is believed to be the first-ever centrifuge-testing programme to establish the sensitivity of bridge natural frequency to scour. For the fundamental mode of vibration, these tests found up to a 40% variation in natural frequency for 30% loss of embedment. Models of three other types of foundation, which represent a shallow pad foundation, a deep pile bent and a deep monopile, were also tested in the centrifuge at different scour levels. The shallow foundation model showed lower frequency sensitivity to scour than the deep foundation models. The level of frequency sensitivity (3.1 to 44% per scour depth equivalent to 30% of embedment of scour) detected in this experiment demonstrates the potential for using natural frequency as an indicator of both local and global scour of bridges, particularly those with deep foundations.
We present a solution for the scattered field caused by an incident wave interacting with an infinite cascade of blades with complex boundary conditions. This extends previous studies by allowing the blades to be compliant, porous or satisfying a gen eralised impedance condition. Beginning with the convected wave equation, we employ Fourier transforms to obtain an integral equation amenable to the Wiener--Hopf method. This Wiener--Hopf system is solved using a method that avoids the factorisation of matrix functions. The Fourier transform is inverted to obtain an expression for the acoustic potential function that is valid throughout the entire domain. We observe that the principal effect of complex boundary conditions is to perturb the zeros of the Wiener--Hopf kernel, which correspond to the duct modes in the inter-blade region. We focus efforts on understanding the role of porosity, and present a range of results on sound transmission and generation. The behaviour of the duct modes is discussed in detail in order to explain the physical mechanisms behind the associated noise reductions. In particular, we show that cut-on duct modes do not exist for arbitrary porosity coefficients. Conversely, the acoustic modes are unchanged by modifications to the boundary conditions. Consequently, we observe that even modest values of porosity can result in reductions in the sound power level of $5$ dB for the first mode and $20$ dB for the second mode. The solution is essentially analytic (the only numerical requirements are matrix inversion and root finding) and is therefore extremely rapid to compute.
We prove the existence of an Inertial Manifold for 3D complex Ginzburg-Landau equation with periodic boundary conditions as well as for more general cross-diffusion system assuming that the dispersive exponent is not vanishing. The result is obtained under the assumption that the parameters of the equation is chosen in such a way that the finite-time blow up of smooth solutions does not take place. For the proof of this result we utilize the recently suggested method of spatio-temporal averaging.
