In this paper, we release an open-source library, called TextBox, to provide a unified, modularized, and extensible text generation framework. TextBox aims to support a broad set of text generation tasks and models. In our library, we implement 21 text generation models on 9 benchmark datasets, covering the categories of VAE, GAN, and pretrained language models. Meanwhile, our library maintains sufficient modularity and extensibility by properly decomposing the model architecture, inference, and learning process into highly reusable modules, which allows users to easily incorporate new models into our framework. The above features make TextBox specially suitable for researchers and practitioners to quickly reproduce baseline models and develop new models. TextBox is implemented based on PyTorch, and released under Apache License 2.0 at https://github.com/RUCAIBox/TextBox.

Text normalization (TN) and inverse text normalization (ITN) are essential preprocessing and postprocessing steps for text-to-speech synthesis and automatic speech recognition, respectively. Many methods have been proposed for either TN or ITN, rangi ng from weighted finite-state transducers to neural networks. Despite their impressive performance, these methods aim to tackle only one of the two tasks but not both. As a result, in a complete spoken dialog system, two separate models for TN and ITN need to be built. This heterogeneity increases the technical complexity of the system, which in turn increases the cost of maintenance in a production setting. Motivated by this observation, we propose a unified framework for building a single neural duplex system that can simultaneously handle TN and ITN. Combined with a simple but effective data augmentation method, our systems achieve state-of-the-art results on the Google TN dataset for English and Russian. They can also reach over 95% sentence-level accuracy on an internal English TN dataset without any additional fine-tuning. In addition, we also create a cleaned dataset from the Spoken Wikipedia Corpora for German and report the performance of our systems on the dataset. Overall, experimental results demonstrate the proposed duplex text normalization framework is highly effective and applicable to a range of domains and languages
Many machine learning frameworks have been proposed and used in wireless communications for realizing diverse goals. However, their incapability of adapting to the dynamic wireless environment and tasks and of self-learning limit their extensive appl ications and achievable performance. Inspired by the great flexibility and adaptation of primate behaviors due to the brain cognitive mechanism, a unified cognitive learning (CL) framework is proposed for the dynamic wireless environment and tasks. The mathematical framework for our proposed CL is established. Using the public and authoritative dataset, we demonstrate that our proposed CL framework has three advantages, namely, the capability of adapting to the dynamic environment and tasks, the self-learning capability and the capability of good money driving out bad money by taking modulation recognition as an example. The proposed CL framework can enrich the current learning frameworks and widen the applications.
Inference in current domains of application are often complex and require us to integrate the expertise of a variety of disparate panels of experts and models coherently. In this paper we develop a formal statistical methodology to guide the networki ng together of a diverse collection of probabilistic models. In particular, we derive sufficient conditions that ensure inference remains coherent across the composite before and after accommodating relevant evidence.
We review the task of Sentence Pair Scoring, popular in the literature in various forms - viewed as Answer Sentence Selection, Semantic Text Scoring, Next Utterance Ranking, Recognizing Textual Entailment, Paraphrasing or e.g. a component of Memory N etworks. We argue that all such tasks are similar from the model perspective and propose new baselines by comparing the performance of common IR metrics and popular convolutional, recurrent and attention-based neural models across many Sentence Pair Scoring tasks and datasets. We discuss the problem of evaluating randomized models, propose a statistically grounded methodology, and attempt to improve comparisons by releasing new datasets that are much harder than some of the currently used well explored benchmarks. We introduce a unified open source software framework with easily pluggable models and tasks, which enables us to experiment with multi-task reusability of trained sentence model. We set a new state-of-art in performance on the Ubuntu Dialogue dataset.
We present DEGARI (Dynamic Emotion Generator And ReclassIfier), an explainable system for emotion attribution and recommendation. This system relies on a recently introduced commonsense reasoning framework, the TCL logic, which is based on a human-li ke procedure for the automatic generation of novel concepts in a Description Logics knowledge base. Starting from an ontological formalization of emotions based on the Plutchik model, known as ArsEmotica, the system exploits the logic TCL to automatically generate novel commonsense semantic representations of compound emotions (e.g. Love as derived from the combination of Joy and Trust according to Plutchik). The generated emotions correspond to prototypes, i.e. commonsense representations of given concepts, and have been used to reclassify emotion-related contents in a variety of artistic domains, ranging from art datasets to the editorial contents available in RaiPlay, the online platform of RAI Radiotelevisione Italiana (the Italian public broadcasting company). We show how the reported results (evaluated in the light of the obtained reclassifications, the user ratings assigned to such reclassifications, and their explainability) are encouraging, and pave the way to many further research directions.
