This paper studies the graph-theoretic conditions for stability of positive monotone systems. Using concepts from input-to-state stability and network small-gain theory, we first establish necessary and sufficient conditions for the stability of linear positive systems described by Metzler matrices. Specifically, we derive two sets of stability conditions based on two forms of input-to-state stability gains for Metzler systems, namely max-interconnection gains and sum-interconnection gains. Based on the max-interconnection gains, we show that the cyclic small-gain theorem becomes necessary and sufficient for the stability of Metzler systems; based on the sum-interconnection gains, we obtain novel graph-theoretic conditions for the stability of Metzler systems. All these conditions highlight the role of cycles in the interconnection graph and unveil how the structural properties of the graph affect stability. Finally, we extend our results to the nonlinear monotone system and obtain similar sufficient conditions for global asymptotic stability.

Delay mass-action systems provide a model of chemical kinetics when past states influence the current dynamics. In this work, we provide a graph-theoretic condition for delay stability, i.e., linear stability independent of both rate constants and de lay parameters. In particular, the result applies when the system has no delay, implying asymptotic stability for the ODE system. The graph-theoretic condition is about cycles in the directed species-reaction graph of the network, which encodes how different species in the system interact.

This paper deals with the stability analysis problem of discrete-time switched linear systems with ranged dwell time. A novel concept called L-switching-cycle is proposed, which contains sequences of multiple activation cycles satisfying the prescrib ed ranged dwell time constraint. Based on L-switching-cycle, two sufficient conditions are proposed to ensure the global uniform asymptotic stability of discrete-time switched linear systems. It is noted that two conditions are equivalent in stability analysis with the same $L$-switching-cycle. These two sufficient conditions can be viewed as generalizations of the clock-dependent Lyapunov and multiple Lyapunov function methods, respectively. Furthermore, it has been proven that the proposed L-switching-cycle can eventually achieve the nonconservativeness in stability analysis as long as a sufficiently long L-switching-cycle is adopted. A numerical example is provided to illustrate our theoretical results.
We consider the problem of ensuring stability in a DC microgrid by means of decentralized conditions. Such conditions are derived which are formulated as input-output properties of locally defined subsystems. These follow from various decompositions of the microgrid and corresponding properties of the resulting representations. It is shown that these stability conditions can be combined together by means of appropriate homotopy arguments, thus reducing the conservatism relative to more conventional decentralized approaches that often rely on a passivation of the bus dynamics. Examples are presented to demonstrate the efficiency and the applicability of the results derived.
In this paper, we investigate geometric properties of monotone systems by studying their isostables and basins of attraction. Isostables are boundaries of specific forward-invariant sets defined by the so-called Koopman operator, which provides a lin ear infinite-dimensional description of a nonlinear system. First, we study the spectral properties of the Koopman operator and the associated semigroup in the context of monotone systems. Our results generalize the celebrated Perron-Frobenius theorem to the nonlinear case and allow us to derive geometric properties of isostables and basins of attraction. Additionally, we show that under certain conditions we can characterize the bounds on the basins of attraction under parametric uncertainty in the vector field. We discuss computational approaches to estimate isostables and basins of attraction and illustrate the results on two and four state monotone systems.
In this note we provide regularity conditions of closedness type which guarantee some surjectivity results concerning the sum of two maximal monotone operators by using representative functions. The first regularity condition we give guarantees the s urjectivity of the monotone operator $S(cdot + p)+T(cdot)$, where $pin X$ and $S$ and $T$ are maximal monotone operators on the reflexive Banach space $X$. Then, this is used to obtain sufficient conditions for the surjectivity of $S+T$ and for the situation when $0$ belongs to the range of $S+T$. Several special cases are discussed, some of them delivering interesting byproducts.
