This talk provides a limited review of SUSY scenarios with the focus on the way electroweak symmetry breaking is achieved and understood under different assumptions. Various aspects of naturalness and their implications are discussed and compared.

In braneworld models coming from string theory one generally encounters massless scalar degrees of freedom -moduli- parameterizing the volume of small compact extra-dimensions. Here we discuss the effects of such moduli on Newtons law for a fairly ge neral 5-D supersymmetric braneworld scenario with a bulk scalar field $phi$. We show that the Newtonian potential describing the gravitational interaction between two bodies localized on the visible brane picks up a non-trivial contribution at short distances that depends on the shape of the superpotential $W(phi)$ of the theory. In particular, we compute this contribution for dilatonic braneworld scenarios $W(phi) = e^{alpha phi}$ (where $alpha$ is a constant) and discuss the particular case of 5-D Heterotic M-theory.

In a model independent framework, the effects of new physics at the electroweak scale can be parametrized in terms of an effective Lagrangian expansion. Assuming the $SU(2)_L x U(1)_Y$ gauge symmetry is linearly realized, the expansion at the lowest order span dimension--six operators built from the observed Standard model (SM) particles, in addition to a light scalar doublet. After a proper choice of the operator basis we present a global fit to all the updated available data related to the electroweak symmetry breaking sector: triple gauge boson vertex (TGV) collider measurements, electroweak precision tests and Higgs searches. In this framework modifications of the interactions of the Higgs field to the electroweak gauge bosons are related to anomalous TGVs, and given the current experimental precision, we show that the analysis of the latest Higgs boson data at the LHC and Tevatron gives rise to strong bounds on TGVs that are complementary to those from direct TGV measurements. Interestingly, we present how this correlated pattern of deviations from the SM predictions could be different for theories based on a non--linear realization of the $SU(2)_L x U(1)_Y$ symmetry, characteristic of for instance composite Higgs models. Furthermore, anomalous TGV signals expected at first order in the non--linear realization may appear only at higher orders of the linear one, and viceversa. Their study could lead to hints on the nature of the observed boson.
Combined analyses at the Large Hadron Collider and at the International Linear Collider are important to unravel a difficult region of supersymmetry that is characterized by scalar SUSY particles with masses around 2 TeV. Precision measurements of ma sses, cross sections and forward-backward asymmetries allow to determine the fundamental supersymmetric parameters even if only a small part of the spectrum is accessible. Mass constraints for the heavy particles can be derived.
In this work we consider the HL-LHC discovery potential in the 3 inverse ab data set for gluinos in the gluino-weakino associated production channel. We propose a search in the jets plus missing energy channel which exploits kinematic edge features i n the reconstructed transverse mass of the gluino. We find that for squark masses in the 2 TeV range we have 5 sigma discovery potential for gluino masses in the range of 2.4 to 3 TeV, competitive with the projections for discovery potential in the gluino pair production channel.

We re-evaluate neutrino mixing patterns according to the latest T2K result for a larger mixing angle $theta_{13}$, and find that the PMNS mixing matrix has larger deviations from bimaximal (BM) and tribimaximal (TB) mixing patterns than previously ex pected. We also find that several schemes connecting PMNS and CKM mixing matrices can accommodate the latest T2K result nicely. As necessary updates to former works, we make new triminimal expansions of PMNS mixing matrix based on BM and TB mixing patterns. We also propose a new mixing pattern with a self-complementary relation between the mixing angles $theta_{12}^{ u} + theta_{13}^{ u} simeq 45^circ$, and find such a new mixing pattern in leading order can provide a rather good description of the data.
