The liquid-gas phase transition in hot asymmetric nuclear matter is studied within density-dependent relativistic mean-field models where the density dependence is introduced according to the Brown-Rho scaling and constrained by available data at low densities and empirical properties of nuclear matter. The critical temperature of the liquid-gas phase transition is obtained to be 15.7 MeV in symmetric nuclear matter falling on the lower edge of the small experimental error bars. In hot asymmetric matter, the boundary of the phase-coexistence region is found to be sensitive to the density dependence of the symmetry energy. The critical pressure and the area of phase-coexistence region increases clearly with the softening of the symmetry energy. The critical temperature of hot asymmetric matter separating the gas phase from the LG coexistence phase is found to be higher for the softer symmetry energy.

Neutron star tidal deformability extracted from gravitational wave data provides a novel probe to the interior neutron star structures and the associated nuclear equation of state (EOS). Instead of the popular composition of nucleons and leptons in n eutron stars, we include hyperons and examine the role of hyperons in the tidal deformability and its impact on the symmetry energy in a relativistic mean-field approach with the density-dependent parametrizations. The hyperons are found to have significant impact on the deformability, correlated sensitively with the onset density and fraction of hyperons in neutron star matter. Moderately lower onset density of hyperons can yield considerable modification to the tidal deformability and shift its inference on the nuclear EOS. The future measurements of the tidal deformability at multi-fiducial star masses are anticipated to lift the degeneracy between the contributions from the hyperon component and symmetry energy.

Density dependent parametrization models of the nucleon-meson effective couplings, including the isovector scalar delta-field, are applied to asymmetric nuclear matter. The nuclear equation of state and the neutron star properties are studied in an e ffective Lagrangian density approach, using the relativistic mean field hadron theory. It is known that the introduction of a delta-meson in the constant coupling scheme leads to an increase of the symmetry energy at high density and so to larger neutron star masses, in a pure nucleon-lepton scheme. We use here a more microscopic density dependent model of the nucleon-meson couplings to study the properties of neutron star matter and to re-examine the delta-field effects in asymmetric nuclear matter. Our calculations show that, due to the increase of the effective delta coupling at high density, with density dependent couplings the neutron star masses in fact can be even reduced.
Relativistic mean-field (RMF) models have been widely used in the study of many hadronic frameworks because of several important aspects not always present in nonrelativistic models, such as intrinsic Lorentz covariance, automatic inclusion of spin, appropriate saturation mechanism for nuclear matter, causality and, therefore, no problems related to superluminal speed of sound. With the aim of identifying the models which best satisfy well known properties of nuclear matter, we have analyzed $263$ parameterizations of seven different types of RMF models under three different sets of constraints related to symmetric nuclear matter, pure neutron matter, symmetry energy, and its derivatives. One of these (SET1) is formed of the same constraints used in a recent work [M. Dutra et al., Phys. Rev. C 85, 035201 (2012)] in which we analyzed $240$ Skyrme parameterizations. The results pointed to $2$ models consistent with all constraints. By using another set of constraints, namely, SET2a, formed by the updat
We present first-principle predictions for the liquid-gas phase transition in symmetric nuclear matter employing both two- and three-nucleon chiral interactions. Our discussion focuses on the sources of systematic errors in microscopic quantum many b ody predictions. On the one hand, we test uncertainties of our results arising from changes in the construction of chiral Hamiltonians. We use five different chiral forces with consistently derived three-nucleon interactions. On the other hand, we compare the ladder resummation in the self-consistent Greens functions approach to finite temperature Brueckner--Hartree--Fock calculations. We find that systematics due to Hamiltonians dominate over many-body uncertainties. Based on this wide pool of calculations, we estimate that the critical temperature is $T_c=16 pm 2$ MeV, in reasonable agreement with experimental results. We also find that there is a strong correlation between the critical temperature and the saturation energy in microscopic many-body simulations.

The machine-learning techniques have shown their capability for studying phase transitions in condensed matter physics. Here, we employ the machine-learning techniques to study the nuclear liquid-gas phase transition. We adopt an unsupervised learnin g and classify the liquid and gas phases of nuclei directly from the final state raw experimental data of heavy-ion reactions. Based on a confusion scheme which combines the supervised and unsupervised learning, we obtain the limiting temperature of the nuclear liquid-gas phase transition. Its value $9.24pm0.04~rm MeV$ is consistent with that obtained by the traditional caloric curve method. Our study explores the paradigm of combining the machine-learning techniques with heavy-ion experimental data, and it is also instructive for studying the phase transition of other uncontrollable systems, like QCD matter.
