Bosonic cascades formed by lattices of equidistant energy levels sustaining radiative transitions between nearest layers are promising for the generation of coherent terahertz radiation. We show how, also for the light emitted by the condensates in t he visible range, they introduce new regimes of emission. Namely, the quantum statistics of bosonic cascades exhibit super-bunching plateaus. This demonstrates further potentialities of bosonic cascade lasers for the engineering of quantum properties of light useful for imaging applications.
Exciton-polaritons are mixed light-matter quasiparticles. We have developed a statistical model describing stochastic exciton-photon transitions within a condensate of exciton polaritons. We show that the exciton-photon correlator depends on the hidd en variable which characterizes the rate of exciton-photon transformations in the condensate. We discuss implications of this effect for the quantum statistics of photons emitted by polariton lasers.
We propose a novel physical mechanism for creation of long lived macroscopic exciton-photon qubits in semiconductor microcavities with embedded quantum wells in the strong couping regime. We argue that the coherence time of Rabi oscillations can be d ramatically enhanced due to their stimulated pumping from a permanent thermal reservoir of polaritons. The polariton qubit is a superposition of lower branch (LP) and upper branch (UP) exciton-polariton states. We discuss applications of such qubits for quantum information processing, cloning and storage purposes.
A simple model describing the Nernst-Ettingshausen effect (NEE) in two-component electronic liquids is formulated. The examples considered include graphite, where the normal and Dirac fermions coexist, superconductor in fluctuating regime, with coexi sting Cooper pairs and normal electrons, and the inter-stellar plasma of electrons and protons. We give a general expression for the Nernst constant and show that the origin of a giant NEE is in the strong dependence of the chemical potential on temperature in all cases.
