We derive a weak-strong uniqueness principle for BV solutions to multiphase mean curvature flow of triple line clusters in three dimensions. Our proof is based on the explicit construction of a gradient-flow calibration in the sense of the recent wor k of Fischer et al. [arXiv:2003.05478] for any such cluster. This extends the two-dimensional construction to the three-dimensional case of surfaces meeting along triple junctions.
We show that in large enough rank, the Gromov boundary of the free factor complex is path connected and locally path connected.
We give a short proof of Scharlemanns Strong Haken Theorem for closed $3$-manifolds (and manifolds with spherical boundary). As an application, we also show that given a decomposing sphere $R$ for a $3$-manifold $M$ that splits off an $S^2 times S^1$ summand, any Heegaard splitting of $M$ restricts to the standard Heegaard splitting on the summand.

Corrector estimates constitute a key ingredient in the derivation of optimal convergence rates via two-scale expansion techniques in homogenization theory of random uniformly elliptic equations. The present work follows up - in terms of corrector est imates - on the recent work of Fischer and Neukamm (arXiv:1908.02273) which provides a quantitative stochastic homogenization theory of nonlinear uniformly elliptic equations under a spectral gap assumption. We establish optimal-order estimates (with respect to the scaling in the ratio between the microscopic and the macroscopic scale) for higher-order linearized correctors. A rather straightforward consequence of the corrector estimates is the higher-order regularity of the associated homogenized monotone operator.
We prove that in the absence of topological changes, the notion of BV solutions to planar multiphase mean curvature flow does not allow for a mechanism for (unphysical) non-uniqueness. Our approach is based on the local structure of the energy landsc ape near a classical evolution by mean curvature. Mean curvature flow being the gradient flow of the surface energy functional, we develop a gradient-flow analogue of the notion of calibrations. Just like the existence of a calibration guarantees that one has reached a global minimum in the energy landscape, the existence of a gradient flow calibration ensures that the route of steepest descent in the energy landscape is unique and stable.

We establish finite time extinction with probability one for weak solutions of the Cauchy-Dirichlet problem for the 1D stochastic porous medium equation with Stratonovich transport noise and compactly supported smooth initial datum. Heuristically, th is is expected to hold because Brownian motion has average spread rate $O(t^frac{1}{2})$ whereas the support of solutions to the deterministic PME grows only with rate $O(t^{frac{1}{m{+}1}})$. The rigorous proof relies on a contraction principle up to time-dependent shift for Wong-Zakai type approximations, the transformation to a deterministic PME with two copies of a Brownian path as the lateral boundary, and techniques from the theory of viscosity solutions.
We show that the identity component of the group of diffeomorphisms of a closed oriented surface of positive genus admits many unbounded quasi-morphisms. As a corollary, we also deduce that this group is not uniformly perfect and its fragmentation no rm is unbounded, answering a question of Burago--Ivanov--Polterovich. As a key tool we construct a hyperbolic graph on which these groups act, which is the analog of the curve graph for the mapping class group.
We show that for a closed surface of genus at least 5, or a surface of genus at least 2 with at least one marked point, the set of uniquely ergodic foliations and the set of cobounded foliations is path-connected and locally path-connected.
We study the action of (big) mapping class groups on the first homology of the corresponding surface. We give a precise characterization of the image of the induced homology representation.
We construct examples of fibered three-manifolds with first Betti number at least 2 and with fibered faces all of whose monodromies extend to a handlebody.
