The aim of the present study is to determine the Li abundances for a large set of the FGK dwarfs and to analyse the connections between the Li content, stellar parameters, and activity. Atmospheric parameters, rotational velocities and Li abundances were determined from a homogeneous collection of the echelle spectra with high resolution and high signal-to-noise ratio. Rotational velocities vsini were determined by calibrating the cross-correlation function. Effective temperatures Teff were estimated by the line-depth ratio method. Surface gravities log g were computed by two methods: iron ionization balance and parallax. LTE Li abundances were computed using the synthetic spectrum method. The behaviour of the Li abundance was examined in correlation with Teff, [Fe/H], vsini and level of activity in three stellar groups of different temperatures. The stellar parameters and Li abundances are presented for 150 slow rotating stars of the lower part of MS. The studied stars show a decline in the Li abundance with decreasing temperature Teff and a significant spread, which should be due to the differences of age. A correlation between Li abundance, vsini and level of chromospheric activity is seen for stars with 6000>Teff>5700 K, and it is tighter for stars with 5700>Teff>5200 K. Stars with Teff<5200 K do not show any correlation between log A(Li) and vsini. The relationship between chromospheric and coronal fluxes in active stars with detected Li as well as in less active stars gives a hint that there exist different conditions in the action of the dynamo mechanism in those stars. We found that the Li-activity correlation is evident only in a restricted temperature range and the Li abundance spread seems to be present in a group of low chromospheric activity stars that also show a broad spread in chromospheric vs coronal activity.

The Radial Velocity Spectrometer (RVS) on board of Gaia will perform a large spectroscopic survey to determine the radial velocities of some 1.5x10^8 stars. We present the status of ground-based observations of a sample of 1420 candidate standard sta rs designed to calibrate the RVS. Each candidate star has to be observed several times before Gaia launch (and at least once during the mission) to ensure that its radial velocity remains stable during the whole mission. Observations are performed with the high-resolution spectrographs SOPHIE, NARVAL and CORALIE, completed with archival data of the ELODIE and HARPS instruments. The analysis shows that about 7% of the current catalogue exhibits variations larger than the adopted threshold of 300 m/s. Consequently, those stars should be rejected as reference targets, due to the expected accuracy of the Gaia RVS. Emphasis is also put here on our observations of bright asteroids to calibrate the ground-based velocities by a direct comparison with celestial mechanics. It is shown that the radial velocity zero points of SOPHIE, NARVAL and CORALIE are consistent with each other, within the uncertainties. Despite some scatter, their temporal variations remain small with respect to our adopted stability criterion.

A new full-sky catalog of Radial Velocity standard stars is being built for the determination of the Radial Velocity Zero Point of the RVS on board of Gaia. After a careful selection of 1420 candidates matching well defined criteria, we are now obser ving all of them to verify that they are stable enough over several years to be qualified as reference stars. We present the status of this long-term observing programme on three spectrographs : SOPHIE, NARVAL and CORALIE, complemented by the ELODIE and HARPS archives. Because each instrument has its own zero-point, we observe intensively IAU RV standards and asteroids to homogenize the radial velocity measurements. We can already estimate that ~8% of the candidates have to be rejected because of variations larger than the requested level of 300 m/s.

The calibration of the Radial Velocity Spectrometer (RVS) onboard the ESA Gaia satellite (to be launched in 2012) requires a list of standard stars with a radial velocity (RV) known with an accuracy of at least 300 m/s. The IAU Commission 30 lists of RV standard stars are too bright and not dense enough. We describe the selection criteria due to the RVS constraints for building an adequate full-sky list of at least 1000 RV standards from catalogues already published in the literature. A preliminary list of 1420 candidate standard stars is built and its properties are shown. An important re-observation programme has been set up in order to ensure within it the selection of objects with a good stability until the end of the Gaia mission (around 2018). The present list of candidate standards is available at CDS and usable for many other projects.

We present the parameters of 891 stars, mostly clump giants, including atmospheric parameters, distances, absolute magnitudes, spatial velocities, galactic orbits and ages. One part of this sample consists of local giants, within 100 pc, with atmosph eric parameters either estimated from our spectroscopic observations at high resolution and high signal-to-noise ratio, or retrieved from the literature. The other part of the sample includes 523 distant stars, which we have estimated atmospheric parameters from high resolution but low signal-to-noise Echelle spectra. This new sample is kinematically unbiased, with well-defined boundaries in magnitude and colours. We revisit the basic properties of the Galactic thin disk as traced by clump giants. We find the metallicity distribution to be different from that of dwarfs, with less metal-rich stars. We find evidence for a vertical metallicity gradient of -0.31 dex/kpc and for a transition at 4-5 Gyr in both the metallicity and velocities. The age - metallicity relation (AMR), which exhibits a very low dispersion, increases smoothly from 10 to 4 Gyr, with a steeper increase for younger stars. The age-velocity relation (AVR) is characterized by the saturation of the V and W dispersions at 5 Gyr, and continuous heating in U.
