Hindmans celebrated Finite Sums Theorem, and its high-dimensional version due to Milliken and Taylor, are extended from covers of countable sets to covers of arbitrary topological spaces with Mengers classic covering property. Which Isbell--Mrowka spaces ($Psi$-spaces) satisfy the star version of Mengers and Hurewiczs covering properties? Following Bonanzinga and Matveev, this question is considered here from a combinatorial point of view. An example of a $Psi$-space that is (strongly) star-Menger but not star-Hurewicz is obtained. The PCF-theory function $kappamapstocof([kappa]^alephes)$ is a key tool. Using the method of forcing, a complete answer to a question of Bonanzinga and Matveev is provided. The results also apply to the mentioned covering properties in the realm of Pixley--Roy spaces, to the extent of spaces with these properties, and to the character of free abelian topological groups over hemicompact $k$ spaces.

Superfilters are generalized ultrafilters, which capture the underlying concept in Ramsey theoretic theorems such as van der Waerdens Theorem. We establish several properties of superfilters, which generalize both Ramseys Theorem and its variant for ultrafilters on the natural numbers. We use them to confirm a conjecture of Kov{c}inac and Di Maio, which is a generalization of a Ramsey theoretic result of Scheepers, concerning selections from open covers. Following Bergelson and Hindmans 1989 Theorem, we present a new simultaneous generalization of the theorems of Ramsey, van der Waerden, Schur, Folkman-Rado-Sanders, Rado, and others, where the colored sets can be much smaller than the full set of natural numbers.
Assume that X is a metrizable separable space, and each clopen-valued lower semicontinuous multivalued map Phi from X to Q has a continuous selection. Our main result is that in this case, X is a sigma-space. We also derive a partial converse implica tion, and present a reformulation of the Scheepers Conjecture in the language of continuous selections.
A 27 years old and still open problem of Juhasz and van Mill asks whether there exists a cardinal kappa such that every regular dense in itself countably compact space has a dense in itself subset of cardinality at most kappa. We give a negative answ er for the analogous question where_regular_ is weakened to_Hausdorff_, and_coutnably compact_ is strengthened to_sequentially compact_.
