In this paper, we study the fundamental limits of simultaneous information and power transfer over a Rayleigh fading channel, where the channel input is constrained to peak-power constraints that vary in each channel use by taking into account high-power amplifier nonlinearities. In particular, a three-party communication system is considered, where a transmitter aims simultaneously conveying information to an information receiver and delivering energy to an energy harvesting receiver. For the special case of static PP constraints, we study the information-energy capacity region and the associated input distribution under: average-power and PP constraints at the transmitter, an HPA nonlinearity at the transmitter, and nonlinearity of the energy harvesting circuit at the energy receiver. By extending Smith mathematical framework, we show that the optimal input distribution under those constraints is discrete with a finite number of mass points. We show that HPA significantly reduces the information energy capacity region. In addition, we derive a closed-form expression of the capacity achieving distribution for the low PP regime, where there is no trade-off between information and energy transfer. For the case with time-varying PP constraints, we prove that the optimal input distribution has a finite support by using Shannons coding scheme. Specifically, we numerically study a particular scenario for the time-varying PP constraints, where the PP constraint probabilistically is either zero or equal to a non-zero constant.

The fading broadcast channel with confidential messages (BCC) is investigated, where a source node has common information for two receivers (receivers 1 and 2), and has confidential information intended only for receiver 1. The confidential information needs to be kept as secret as possible from receiver 2. The channel state information (CSI) is assumed to be known at both the transmitter and the receivers. The secrecy capacity region is first established for the parallel Gaussian BCC, and the optimal source power allocations that achieve the boundary of the secrecy capacity region are derived. In particular, the secrecy capacity region is established for the Gaussian case of the Csiszar-Korner BCC model. The secrecy capacity results are then applied to give the ergodic secrecy capacity region for the fading BCC.

This paper considers the cooperative device-to-device (D2D) systems with non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA). We assume that the base station (BS) can communicate simultaneously with all users to satisfy the full information transmission. In order to characterize the impact of the weak channel and different decoding schemes, two kinds of decoding strategies are proposed: emph{single signal decoding scheme} and emph{MRC decoding scheme}, respectively. For the emph{single signal decoding scheme}, the users immediately decode the received signals after receptions from the BS. Meanwhile, for the emph{MRC decoding scheme}, instead of decoding, the users will keep the receptions in reserve until the corresponding phase comes and the users jointly decode the received signals by employing maximum ratio combining (MRC). Considering Rayleigh fading channels, the ergodic sum-rate (SR), outage probability and outage capacity of the proposed D2D-NOMA system are analyzed. Moreover, approximate expressions for the ergodic SR are also provided with a negligible performance loss. Numerical results demonstrate that the ergodic SR and outage probability of the proposed D2D-NOMA scheme overwhelm that of the conventional NOMA schemes. Furthermore, it is also revealed that the system performance including the ergodic SR and outage probability are limited by the poor channel condition for both the emph{single signal decoding scheme} and conventional NOMA schemes.
The fading wire-tap channel is investigated, where the source-to-destination channel and the source-to-wire-tapper channel are corrupted by multiplicative fading gain coefficients in addition to additive Gaussian noise terms. The channel state information is assumed to be known at both the transmitter and the receiver. The parallel wire-tap channel with independent subchannels is first studied, which serves as an information-theoretic model for the fading wire-tap channel. The secrecy capacity of the parallel wire-tap channel is established. This result is then specialized to give the secrecy capacity of the fading wire-tap channel, which is achieved with the source node dynamically changing the power allocation according to the channel state realization. An optimal source power allocation is obtained to achieve the secrecy capacity.
A discrete-time single-user scalar channel with temporally correlated Rayleigh fading is analyzed. There is no side information at the transmitter or the receiver. A simple expression is given for the capacity per unit energy, in the presence of a peak constraint. The simple formula of Verdu for capacity per unit cost is adapted to a channel with memory, and is used in the proof. In addition to bounding the capacity of a channel with correlated fading, the result gives some insight into the relationship between the correlation in the fading process and the channel capacity. The results are extended to a channel with side information, showing that the capacity per unit energy is one nat per Joule, independently of the peak power constraint. A continuous-time version of the model is also considered. The capacity per unit energy subject to a peak constraint (but no bandwidth constraint) is given by an expression similar to that for discrete time, and is evaluated for Gauss-Markov and Clarke fading channels.
Discrete-time Rayleigh fading single-input single-output (SISO) and multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channels are considered, with no channel state information at the transmitter or the receiver. The fading is assumed to be stationary and correlated in time, but independent from antenna to antenna. Peak-power and average-power constraints are imposed on the transmit antennas. For MIMO channels, these constraints are either imposed on the sum over antennas, or on each individual antenna. For SISO channels and MIMO channels with sum power constraints, the asymptotic capacity as the peak signal-to-noise ratio tends to zero is identified; for MIMO channels with individual power constraints, this asymptotic capacity is obtained for a class of channels called transmit separable channels. The results for MIMO channels with individual power constraints are carried over to SISO channels with delay spread (i.e. frequency selective fading).
