The quon algebra describes particles, ``quons, that are neither fermions nor bosons, using a label $q$ that parametrizes a smooth interpolation between bosons ($q = 1$) and fermions ($q = -1$). Understanding the relation of quons on the one side and bosons or fermions on the other can shed light on the different properties of these two kinds of operators and the statistics which they carry. In particular, local bilinear observables can be constructed from bosons and fermions, but not from quons. In this paper we construct bosons and fermions from quon operators. For bosons, our construction works for $-1 leq q leq 1$. The case $q=-1$ is paradoxical, since that case makes a boson out of fermions, which would seem to be impossible. None the less, when the limit $q to -1$ is taken from above, the construction works. For fermions, the analogous construction works for $-1 leq q leq 1$, which includes the paradoxical case $q=1$.

We revisit the Unruh effect to investigate how finite acceleration would affect a scalar condensate. We discuss a negative thermal-like correction associated with acceleration. From the correspondence between thermo-field dynamics and acceleration effects we give an explanation for this negative sign. Using this result and solving the gap equation we show that the condensate should increase with larger acceleration.

BPS coherent states closely resemble semiclassical states and they have gravity dual descriptions in terms of semiclassical geometries. The half BPS coherent states have been well studied, however less is known about quarter BPS coherent states. Here we provide a construction of quarter BPS coherent states. They are coherent states built with two matrix fields, generalizing the half BPS case. These states are both the eigenstates of annihilation operators and in the kernel of dilatation operator. Another useful labeling of quarter BPS states is by representations of Brauer algebras and their projection onto a subalgebra $mathbb{C}[S_ntimes S_m]$. Here, the Schur-Weyl duality for the Walled Brauer algebra plays an important role in organizing the operators. One interesting subclass of these Brauer states are labeled by representations involving two Young tableaux. We obtain the overlap between quarter BPS Brauer states and quarter BPS coherent states, where the Schur polynomials are used. We also derive superposition formulas transforming a truncated version of quarter BPS coherent states to quarter BPS Brauer states. The entanglement entropy of Brauer states as well as the overlap between Brauer states and squeezed states are also computed.
We show that in a general hidden sector model, supersymmetry breaking necessarily generates at one-loop a scalar and gaugino mass as a consequence of the super-Weyl anomaly. We study a scenario in which this contribution dominates. We consider the Standard Model particles to be localized on a (3+1)-dimensional subspace or ``3-brane of a higher dimensional spacetime, while supersymmetry breaking occurs off the 3-brane, either in the bulk or on another 3-brane. At least one extra dimension is assumed to be compactified roughly one to two orders of magnitude below the four-dimensional Planck scale. This framework is phenomenologically very attractive; it introduces new possibilities for solving the supersymmetric flavor problem, the gaugino mass problem, the supersymmetric CP problem, and the mu-problem. Furthermore, the compactification scale can be consistent with a unification of gauge and gravitational couplings. We demonstrate these claims in a four-dimensional effective theory below the compactification scale that incorporates the relevant features of the underlying higher dimensional theory and the contribution of the super-Weyl anomaly. Naturalness constraints follow not only from symmetries but also from the higher dimensional origins of the theory. We also introduce additional bulk contributions to the MSSM soft masses. This scenario is very predictive: the gaugino masses, squark masses, and $A$ terms are given in terms of MSSM renormalization group functions.
Thermodynamic properties of a system of interacting bosonic particles and antiparticles at finite temperatures are studied within the framework of a thermodynamically consistent mean field model. The mean field contains both attractive and repulsive terms. Self-consistency relations between the mean field and thermodynamic functions are derived. We assume a conservation of the isospin density for all temperatures. It is shown that, independently of the strength of the attractive mean field, at the critical temperature $T_c$ the system undergoes the phase transition of second order to the Bose-Einstein condensate, which exists in the temperature interval $0 le T le T_c$. It is obtained that the condensation represents a discontinuity of the derivative of the specific heat at $T = T_c$ and condensate occurs only for the component that has a higher particle-number density in the particle-antiparticle system.
We introduce a new numerical algorithm based on semidefinite programming to efficiently compute bounds on operator dimensions, central charges, and OPE coefficients in 4D conformal and N=1 superconformal field theories. Using our algorithm, we dramatically improve previous bounds on a number of CFT quantities, particularly for theories with global symmetries. In the case of SO(4) or SU(2) symmetry, our bounds severely constrain models of conformal technicolor. In N=1 superconformal theories, we place strong bounds on dim(Phi*Phi), where Phi is a chiral operator. These bounds asymptote to the line dim(Phi*Phi) <= 2 dim(Phi) near dim(Phi) ~ 1, forbidding positive anomalous dimensions in this region. We also place novel upper and lower bounds on OPE coefficients of protected operators in the Phi x Phi OPE. Finally, we find examples of lower bounds on central charges and flavor current two-point functions that scale with the size of global symmetry representations. In the case of N=1 theories with an SU(N) flavor symmetry, our bounds on current two-point functions lie within an O(1) factor of the values realized in supersymmetric QCD in the conformal window.
