We study the pattern of gluino cascade decays in a class of supersymmetric models where R-parity is spontaneously broken. The multi-lepton and same-sign dilepton rates in these models are compared with those of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. We show that these rates can be substantially enhanced in models with broken R-parity.
The gravitino is a promising supersymmetric dark matter candidate, even without strict R-parity conservation. In fact, with some small R-parity violation, gravitinos are sufficiently long-lived to constitute the dark matter of the universe, while the resulting cosmological scenario is consistent with primordial nucleosynthesis and the high reheating temperature needed for thermal leptogenesis. Furthermore, in this scenario the gravitino is unstable and might thus be accessible by indirect detection via its decay products. We compute in this thesis the partial decay widths for the gravitino in models with bilinear R-parity breaking. In addition, we determine the neutrino signal from astrophysical gravitino dark matter decays. Finally, we discuss the feasibility of detecting these neutrino signals in present and future neutrino experiments, and conclude that it will be a challenging task. Albeit, if detected, this distinctive signal might bring considerable support to the scenario of decaying gravitino dark matter.
We study radiative gravitino decay within the framework of R-violating supersymmetry. For trilinear R-violating couplings that involve the third generation of fermions, or for light gravitinos, we find that the radiative loop-decay $tilde{G} to gamma u$ dominates over the tree-level ones for a wide set of parameters. We calculate the gravitino decay width and study its implications for cosmology and collider physics. Slow-decaying gravitinos are good dark matter candidates, for a range of parameters that would also predict observable R-violating signatures in colliders. In general the branching ratios are very dependent on the relative hierarchies of R-violating operators, and may provide relevant information on the flavour structure of the underlying fundamental theory.
We examine the effects of R-parity violating (RPV) supersymmetry on the two-photon B decays B -> X_s gamma gamma and B_s -> gamma gamma. We find that, although there are many one-loop RPV diagrams that can contribute to these two-photon B decays, the RPV effect is dominated by a single diagram. This diagram, named here lambda-irreducible, has a distinct topology which is irrelevant for the b -> s gamma amplitude at one-loop and has thus a negligible effect on the one-photon decay B -> X_s gamma. We show that the lambda-irreducible RPV diagram can give BR(B_s -> gamma gamma) ~ 5*10^(-6) and BR(B -> X_s gamma gamma) ~ 6*10^(-7), which is about 16 and 5 times larger than the SM values, respectively. Although the enhancement to the decay width of B -> X_s gamma gamma is not that dramatic, we find that the energy distribution of the two photons is appreciably different from the SM, due to new threshold effects caused by the distinct topology of the RPV lambda-irreducible diagram. Moreover, this diagram significantly changes the forward-backward asymmetry with respect to the softer photon in B -> X_s gamma gamma. Thus, the RPV effect in B -> X_s gamma gamma can be discerned using these observables.
The $R$-parity violating decays of Bino neutralino LSPs are analyzed within the context of the $B-L$ MSSM heterotic standard model. These LSPs correspond to statistically determined initial soft supersymmetry breaking parameters which, when evolved using the renormalization group equations, lead to an effective theory satisfying all phenomenological requirements; including the observed electroweak vector boson masses and the Higgs mass. The explicit RPV decay channels of these LSPs into standard model particles, the analytic and numerical decay rates and the associated branching ratios are presented. The analysis of these quantities breaks into two separate calculations; first, for Bino neutralino LSPs with mass larger than $M_{W^{pm}}$ and, second, when the Bino neutralino mass is smaller than the electroweak scale. The RPV decay processes in both of these regions is analyzed in detail. The decay lengths of these RPV interactions are discussed. It is shown that for heavy Bino neutralino LSPs the vast majority of these decays are prompt, although a small, but calculable, number correspond to displaced decays of various lengths. The situation is reversed for light Bino LSPs, only a small number of which can RPV decay promptly. The relation of these results to the neutrino hierarchy--either normal or inverted--is discussed in detail.
We analyze the CP violation in the semileptonic | Delta S|=1 tau-decays in supersymmetric extensions of the standard model (SM) with R parity violating term. We show that the CP asymmetry of tau-decay is enhanced significantly and the current experimental limits obtained by CLEO collaborations can be easily accommodated. We argue that observing CP violation in semi leptonic tau-decay would be a clear evidence for R-parity violating SUSY extension of the SM.
