Final results of the measurement of $R = sigma(e^+e^- to hadrons) /sigma(e^+e^- to mu^+mu^-)$ in the energy region from 2 to 5 GeV with the upgraded Beijing Spectrometer (BESII) at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPC) are presented. Preliminary results of the inclusive momentum spectra and second binomial moment measured with the $R$ scan data at 2.2, 2.6, 3.0, 3.2, 4.6 and 4.8 GeV are reported.
We report preliminary $R$ values for all 85 energy points scanned in the energy region of 2-5 GeV with the upgraded Beijing Spectrometer (BESII) at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPC). The typical uncertainty on the R values we measured is about 7%. The new R values have a significant impact on the predicted mass of the Higgs coming from the global fit to the electroweak data, and will also contribute to the interpretation of the E821 g-2 experiment.
By analyzing the large-angle Bhabha scattering events $e^{+}e^{-}$ $to$ ($gamma$)$e^{+}e^{-}$ and diphoton events $e^{+}e^{-}$ $to$ $gammagamma$ for the data sets collected at center-of-mass (c.m.) energies between 2.2324 and 4.5900 GeV (131 energy points in total) with the upgraded Beijing Spectrometer (BESIII) at the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider (BEPCII), the integrated luminosities have been measured at the different c.m. energies, individually. The results are the important inputs for R value and $J/psi$ resonance parameter measurements.
Results from the Beam Energy Scan (BES) program conducted recently by STAR experiment at RHIC are presented. The data from Phase-I of the BES program collected in Au+Au collisions at center-of-mass energies (sqrt{s_{NN}}) of 7.7, 11.5, 19.6, 27, and 39 GeV cover a wide range of baryon chemical potential ?mu_B (100-400 MeV) in the QCD phase diagram. Several STAR results from the BES Phase-I related to turn-off of strongly inter- acting quark-gluon plasma (sQGP) signatures and signals of QCD phase boundary are reported. In addition to this, an outlook is presented for the future BES Phase-II program and a possible fixed target program at STAR.
We discuss the soundness of inflationary scenarios in theories beyond the Starobinsky model, namely a class of theories described by arbitrary functions of the Ricci scalar and the K-essence field. We discuss the pathologies associated with higher-order equations of motion which will be shown to constrain the stability of this class of theories. We provide a general framework to calculate the slow-roll parameters and the corresponding mappings to the theory parameters. For paradigmatic gravitational models within the class of theories under consideration we illustrate the power of the Planck/Bicep2 latest results to constrain such gravitational Lagrangians. Finally, bounds for potential deviations from Starobinsky-like inflation are derived.
We report the preliminary R values for all the 85 energy points scanned in the energy region of 2-5 GeV with the upgraded Beijing Spectrometer (BESII) at Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPC). Preliminary results from the J/psi data collected with both BESI and BESII are presented. Measurements of the branching fraction of the psi(2S) decays and the psi(2S) resonance parameters are reported. The future plans, i.e. significantly upgrade the machine and detector are also discussed.
