In this article we revisit the theory of open quantum systems from the perspective of fermionic baths. Specifically, we concentrate on the dynamics of a central spin half particle interacting with a spin bath. We have calculated the exact reduced dynamics of the central spin and constructed the Kraus operators in relation to that. Further, the exact Lindblad type cannonical master equation corresponding to the reduced dynamics is constructed. We have also briefly touch upon the aspect of non-Markovianity from the backdrop of the reduced dynamics of the central spin.

We briefly examine recent developments in the field of open quantum system theory, devoted to the introduction of a satisfactory notion of memory for a quantum dynamics. In particular, we will consider a possible formalization of the notion of non-Markovian dynamics, as well as the construction of quantum evolution equations featuring a memory kernel. Connections will be drawn to the corresponding notions in the framework of classical stochastic processes, thus pointing to the key differences between a quantum and classical formalization of the notion of memory effects.
Maintaining coherence of a qubit is of vital importance for realizing a large-scale quantum computer in practice. In this work, we study the central spin decoherence problem in the $XXX$ central spin model (CSM) and focus on the quantum states with different initial entanglement, namely intra-bath entanglement or system-bath entanglement. We analytically obtain their evolutions of fidelity, entanglement, and quantum coherence. When the initial bath spins constitute an $N$-particle entangled state (the Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger-bath or the $W$-bath), the leading amplitudes of their fidelity evolutions both scale as $mathcal O(1/N)$, which is the same as the case of a fully polarized bath. However, when the central spin is maximally entangled with one of the bath spins, the amplitude scaling of its fidelity evolution declines from $mathcal O(1/N)$ to $mathcal O(1/N^2)$. That implies appropriate initial system-bath entanglement is contributive to suppress central spin decoherence. In addition, with the help of system-bath entanglement, we realize quantum coherence-enhanced dynamics for the central spin where the consumption of bath entanglement is shown to play a central role.
We obtain analytically close forms of benchmark quantum dynamics of the collapse and revival (CR), reduced density matrix, Von Neumann entropy, and fidelity for the XXZ central spin problem. These quantities characterize the quantum decoherence and entanglement of the system with few to many bath spins, and for a short to infinitely long time evolution. For the homogeneous central spin problem, the effective magnetic field $B$, coupling constant $A$ and longitudinal interaction $Delta$ significantly influence the time scales of the quantum dynamics of the central spin and the bath, providing a tunable resource for quantum metrology. Under the resonance condition $B=Delta=A$, the location of the $m$-th revival peak in time reaches a simple relation $t_{r} simeqfrac{pi N}{A} m$ for a large $N$. For $Delta =0$, $Nto infty$ and a small polarization in the initial spin coherent state, our analytical result for the CR recovers the known expression found in the Jaynes-Cummings model, thus building up an exact dynamical connection between the central spin problems and the light-matter interacting systems in quantum nonlinear optics. In addition, the CR dynamics is robust to a moderate inhomogeneity of the coupling amplitudes, while disappearing at strong inhomogeneity.
Digital quantum simulators provide a diversified tool for solving the evolution of quantum systems with complicated Hamiltonians and hold great potential for a wide range of applications. Although much attention is paid to the unitary evolution of closed quantum systems, dissipation and noise are vital in understanding the dynamics of practical quantum systems. In this work, we experimentally demonstrate a digital simulation of an open quantum system in a controllable Markovian environment with the assistance of a single ancillary qubit. By Trotterizing the quantum Liouvillians, the continuous evolution of an open quantum system is effectively realized, and its application in error mitigation is demonstrated by adjusting the simulated noise intensities. High-order Trotter for open quantum dynamics is also experimentally investigated and shows higher accuracy. Our results represent a significant step towards hardware-efficient simulation of open quantum systems and error mitigation in quantum algorithms in noisy intermediate-scale quantum systems.
We introduce a new dynamical picture, referred to as correlation picture, which connects a correlated state to its uncorrelated counterpart. Using this picture allows us to derive an exact dynamical equation for a general open-system dynamics with system--environment correlations included. This exact dynamics is in the form of a Lindblad-like equation even in the presence of initial system-environment correlations. For explicit calculations, we also develop a weak-correlation expansion formalism that allows us to perform systematic perturbative approximations. This expansion provides approximate master equations which can feature advantages over existing weak-coupling techniques. As a special case, we derive a Markovian master equation, which is different from existing approaches. We compare our equations with corresponding standard weak-coupling equations by two examples, where our correlation picture formalism is more accurate, or at least as accurate as weak-coupling equations.
