Anzai skew-products are shown to be uniquely ergodic with respect to the fixed-point subalgebra if and only if there is a unique conditional expectation onto such a subalgebra which is invariant under the dynamics. For the particular case of skew-products, this solves a question raised by B. Abadie and K. Dykema in the wider context of $C^*$-dynamical systems.

We provide a systematic study of a noncommutative extension of the classical Anzai skew-product for the cartesian product of two copies of the unit circle to the noncommutative 2-tori. In particular, some relevant ergodic properties are proved for these quantum dynamical systems, extending the corresponding ones enjoyed by the classical Anzai skew-product. As an application, for a uniquely ergodic Anzai skew-product $F$ on the noncommutative $2$-torus $ba_a$, $ainbr$, we investigate the pointwise limit, $lim_{nto+infty}frac1{n}sum_{k=0}^{n-1}l^{-k}F^k(x)$, for $xinba_a$ and $l$ a point in the unit circle, and show that there exist examples for which the limit does not exist even in the weak topology.

It is shown that if T is a ternary ring of operators (TRO), X is a nondegenerate sub-TRO of T and there exists a contractive idempotent surjective map P:T-->X, then P has a unique, explicitly described extension to a conditional expectation between the associated linking algebras. A version of the result for W*-TROs is also presented and some applications mentioned.
We provide a description of certain invariance properties of completely bounded bimodule maps in terms of their symbols. If $mathbb{G}$ is a locally compact quantum group, we characterise the completely bounded $L^{infty}(mathbb{G})$-bimodule maps that send $C_0(hat{mathbb{G}})$ into $L^{infty}(hat{mathbb{G}})$ in terms of the properties of the corresponding elements of the normal Haagerup tensor product $L^{infty}(mathbb{G}) otimes_{sigma{rm h}} L^{infty}(mathbb{G})$. As a consequence, we obtain an intrinsic characterisation of the normal completely bounded $L^{infty}(mathbb{G})$-bimodule maps that leave $L^{infty}(hat{mathbb{G}})$ invariant, extending and unifying results, formulated in the current literature separately for the commutative and the co-commutative cases.
Let $A$ be a unital operator algebra and let $alpha$ be an automorphism of $A$ that extends to a *-automorphism of its $ca$-envelope $cenv (A)$. In this paper we introduce the isometric semicrossed product $A times_{alpha}^{is} bbZ^+ $ and we show that $cenv(A times_{alpha}^{is} bbZ^+) simeq cenv (A) times_{alpha} bbZ$. In contrast, the $ca$-envelope of the familiar contractive semicrossed product $A times_{alpha} bbZ^+ $ may not equal $cenv (A) times_{alpha} bbZ$. Our main tool for calculating $ca$-envelopes for semicrossed products is the concept of a relative semicrossed product of an operator algebra, which we explore in the more general context of injective endomorphisms. As an application, we extend a recent result of Davidson and Katsoulis to tensor algebras of $ca$-correspondences. We show that if $T_{X}^{+}$ is the tensor algebra of a $ca$-correspondence $(X, fA)$ and $alpha$ a completely isometric automorphism of $T_{X}^{+}$ that fixes the diagonal elementwise, then the contractive semicrossed product satisfies $ cenv(T_{X}^{+} times_{alpha} bbZ^+)simeq O_{X} times_{alpha} bbZ$, where $O_{X}$ denotes the Cuntz-Pimsner algebra of $(X, fA)$.

Given a group cocycle on a finitely aligned left cancellative small category (LCSC) we investigate the associated skew product category and its Cuntz-Krieger algebra, which we describe as the crossed product of the Cuntz-Krieger algebra of the original category by an induced coaction of the group. We use our results to study Cuntz-Krieger algebras arising from free actions of groups on finitely aligned LCSCs, and to construct coactions of groups on Exel-Pardo algebras. Finally we discuss the universal group of a small category and connectedness of skew product categories.
