Classically, theorems of Fatou and Julia describe the boundary regularity of functions in one complex variable. The former says that a complex analytic function on the disk has non-tangential boundary values almost everywhere, and the latter describes when a function takes an extreme value at a boundary point and is differentiable there non-tangentially. We describe a class of intermediate theorems in terms of averaged Julia-Fatou quotients. Boundary regularity is related to integrability of certain quantities against a special measure, the so-called Nevanlinna measure. Applications are given to spectral theory.
We give applications of Foliation Theory to the Classical Invariant Theory of real orthogonal representations, including: The solution of the Inverse Invariant Theory problem for finite groups. An if-and-only-if criterion for when a separating set is a generating set. And the introduction of a class of generalized polarizations which, in the case of representations of finite groups, always generates the algebra of invariants of their diagonal representations.
We study whether in the setting of the Deift-Zhou nonlinear steepest descent method one can avoid solving local parametrix problems explicitly, while still obtaining asymptotic results. We show that this can be done, provided an a priori estimate for the exact solution of the Riemann-Hilbert problem is known. This enables us to derive asymptotic results for orthogonal polynomials on $[-1,1]$ with a new class of weight functions. In these cases, the weight functions are too badly behaved to allow a reformulation of a local parametrix problem to a global one with constant jump matrices. Possible implications for edge universality in random matrix theory are also discussed.
We construct holomorphically varying families of Fatou-Bieberbach domains with given centres in the complement of any compact polynomially convex subset $K$ of $mathbb C^n$ for $n>1$. This provides a simple proof of the recent result of Yuta Kusakabe to the effect that the complement $mathbb C^nsetminus K$ of any polynomially convex subset $K$ of $mathbb C^n$ is an Oka manifold. The analogous result is obtained with $mathbb C^n$ replaced by any Stein manifold with the density property.
We study bounded operators defined in terms of the regular representations of the $C^*$-algebra of an amenable, Hausdorff, second countable locally compact groupoid endowed with a continuous $2$-cocycle. We concentrate on spectral quantities associated to natural quotients of this twisted algebra, such as the essential spectrum, the essential numerical range, and Fredholm properties. We obtain decompositions for the regular representations associated to units of the groupoid belonging to a free locally closed orbit, in terms of spectral quantities attached to points (or orbits) in the boundary of this main orbit. As examples, we discuss various classes of magnetic pseudo-differential operators on nilpotent groups. We also prove localization and non-propagation properties associated to suitable parts of the essential spectrum. These are applied to twisted groupoids having a totally intransitive groupoid restriction at the boundary.
Slice regular functions have been extensively studied over the past decade, but much less is known about their boundary behavior. In this paper, we initiate the study of Julia theory for slice regular functions. More specifically, we establish the quaternion
