In recent years, recommendation systems have been widely applied in many domains. These systems are impotent in affecting users to choose the behavior that the system expects. Meanwhile, providing incentives has been proven to be a more proactive way to affect users behaviors. Due to the budget limitation, the number of users who can be incentivized is restricted. In this light, we intend to utilize social influence existing among users to enhance the effect of incentivization. Through incentivizing influential users directly, their followers in the social network are possibly incentivized indirectly. However, in many real-world scenarios, the topological structure of the network is usually unknown, which makes identifying influential users difficult. To tackle the aforementioned challenges, in this paper, we propose a novel algorithm for exploring influential users in unknown networks, which can estimate the influential relationships among users based on their historical behaviors and without knowing the topology of the network. Meanwhile, we design an adaptive incentive allocation approach that determines incentive values based on users preferences and their influence ability. We evaluate the performance of the proposed approaches by conducting experiments on both synthetic and real-world datasets. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approaches.

Identifying emerging influential or popular node/item in future on network is a current interest of the researchers. Most of previous works focus on identifying leaders in time evolving networks on the basis of network structure or nodes activity separate way. In this paper, we have proposed a hybrid model which considers both, nodes structural centrality and recent activity of nodes together. We consider that the node is active when it is receiving more links in a given recent time window, rather than in the whole past life of the node. Furthermore our model is flexible to implement structural rank such as PageRank and webpage click information as activity of the node. For testing the performance of our model, we adopt the PageRank algorithm and linear preferential attachment based model as the baseline methods. Experiments on three real data sets (i.e Movielens, Netflix and Facebook wall post data set), we found that our model shows better performance in terms of finding the emerging influential nodes that were not popular in past.

A key step in influence maximization in online social networks is the identification of a small number of users, known as influencers, who are able to spread influence quickly and widely to other users. The evolving nature of the topological structure of these networks makes it difficult to locate and identify these influencers. In this paper, we propose an adaptive agent-based evolutionary approach to address this problem in the context of both static and dynamic networks. This approach is shown to be able to adapt the solution as the network evolves. It is also applicable to large-scale networks due to its distributed framework. Evaluation of our approach is performed by using both synthetic networks and real-world datasets. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed approach outperforms state-of-the-art seeding algorithms in terms of maximizing influence.

Social network research has begun to take advantage of fine-grained communications regarding coordination, decision-making, and knowledge sharing. These studies, however, have not generally analyzed how external events are associated with a social networks structure and communicative properties. Here, we study how external events are associated with a networks change in structure and communications. Analyzing a complete dataset of millions of instant messages among the decision-makers in a large hedge fund and their network of outside contacts, we investigate the link between price shocks, network structure, and change in the affect and cognition of decision-makers embedded in the network. When price shocks occur the communication network tends not to display structural changes associated with adaptiveness. Rather, the network turtles up. It displays a propensity for higher clustering, strong tie interaction, and an intensification of insider vs. outsider communication. Further, we find changes in network structure predict shifts in cognitive and affective processes, execution of new transactions, and local optimality of transactions better than prices, revealing the important predictive relationship between network structure and collective behavior within a social network.

Online social networks have become incredibly popular in recent years, which prompts an increasing number of companies to promote their brands and products through social media. This paper presents an approach for identifying influential nodes in online social network for brand communication. We first construct a weighted network model for the users and their relationships extracted from the brand-related contents. We quantitatively measure the individual value of the nodes in the community from both the network structure and brand engagement aspects. Then an algorithm for identifying the influential nodes from the virtual brand community is proposed. The algorithm evaluates the importance of the nodes by their individual values as well as the individual values of their surrounding nodes. We extract and construct a virtual brand community for a specific brand from a real-life online social network as the dataset and empirically evaluate the proposed approach. The experimental results have shown that the proposed approach was able to identify influential nodes in online social network. We can get an identification result with higher ratio of verified users and user coverage by using the approach.
With the rapid development of Internet technology, online social networks (OSNs) have got fast development and become increasingly popular. Meanwhile, the research works across multiple social networks attract more and more attention from researchers, and community detection is an important one across OSNs for online security problems, such as the user behavior analysis and abnormal community discovery. In this paper, a community detection method is proposed across multiple social networks based on overlapping users. First, the concept of overlapping users is defined, then an algorithm CMN NMF is designed to discover the stub communities from overlapping users based on the social relevance. After that, we extend each stub community in different social networks by adding the users with strong similarity, and in the end different communities are excavated out across networks. Experimental results show the advantage on effectiveness of our method over other methods under real data sets.
