The LPMWPC can be used as the {Delta}E detector for the low-energy charged particle detection. In order to increase the transmittance, the wires were adopted as the cathode. This work investigated the LPMWPC signal characteristics of this configuration and measured the gas gain with a mixture of 90%Ar and 10% CO2 from 1E3 to 1E5 Pa. From the test, the second pulse after the avalanche signal was observed, which proved to be caused by the ions drifting near the cathode wire.

A normal pressure MWPC for beam diagnostics at RIBLL2 has been developed, which has a sensitive area of 80 mm$times$80 mm and consists of three-layer wire planes. The anode plane is designed with a wider frame to reduce the discharge and without using protection wires. The detector has been tested with a $^{55}$Fe X-ray source and a 200 MeV/u $^{12}$C beam from CSRm. A position resolution better than 250 $upmu$m along the anode wires and a detection efficiency higher than 90% have been achieved.

The calorimeter, range detector and active target elements of the T2K near detectors rely on the Hamamatsu Photonics Multi-Pixel Photon Counters (MPPCs) to detect scintillation light produced by charged particles. Detailed measurements of the MPPC gain, afterpulsing, crosstalk, dark noise, and photon detection efficiency for low light levels are reported. In order to account for the impact of the MPPC behavior on T2K physics observables, a simulation program has been developed based on these measurements. The simulation is used to predict the energy resolution of the detector.
A prototype of Multi-Wire Proportional Chambers (MWPC) has been fabricated for the study of its various characteristics. The detector contains gold-coated tungsten wires (20 $mu m$ diameter) on the anode frame, with a pitch of 2.8 mm. The gap between the anode and the cathode is 3 mm and the gap between anode and read-out is also 3 mm. Detailed study of MWPC in terms of gain, energy and timing resolution and efficiency measurements have been performed. The detector has been operated using Ar/CO$_{2}$ gas mixtures with 70:30 and 90:10 ratio. Energy spectrum of $^{55}$Fe X-ray source is obtained for the detector. The gain and energy resolution of the detector were calculated using X-ray spectrum. Time resolution is obtained $sim$10 ns.

The IceCube Collaboration is investigating various types and manufacturers of photomultiplier tubes (PMT) for possible use in future optical modules. This report presents characterization results for two different types of HZC Photonics PMTs: the 3.5 inch XP82B20D and the 9 inch XP1805D. The results are in good agreement with the specifications as provided by the manufacturer. In addition, excellent noise behaviour is observed at the low temperatures relevant for possible use in IceCube optical modules.
For the first time we have investigated the behavior of fully micro-fabricated low temperature metallic magnetic calorimeters (MMCs) after undergoing an ion-implantation process. This experiment had the aim to show the possibility to perform a high precision calorimetric measurement of the energy spectrum following the electron capture of $^{163}$Ho using MMCs having the radioactive $^{163}$Ho ions implanted in the absorber. The implantation of $^{163}$Ho ions was performed at ISOLDE-CERN. The performance of a detector that underwent an ion-implantation process is compared to the one of a detector without implanted ions. The results show that the implantation dose of ions used in this experiment does not compromise the properties of the detector. In addition an optimized detector design for future $^{163}$Ho experiments is presented.
