In recent years, semi-supervised multi-view nonnegative matrix factorization (MVNMF) algorithms have achieved promising performances for multi-view clustering. While most of semi-supervised MVNMFs have failed to effectively consider discriminative information among clusters and feature alignment from multiple views simultaneously. In this paper, a novel Discriminatively Constrained Semi-Supervised Multi-View Nonnegative Matrix Factorization (DCS^2MVNMF) is proposed. Specifically, a discriminative weighting matrix is introduced for the auxiliary matrix of each view, which enhances the inter-class distinction. Meanwhile, a new graph regularization is constructed with the label and geometrical information. In addition, we design a new feature scale normalization strategy to align the multiple views and complete the corresponding iterative optimization schemes. Extensive experiments conducted on several real world multi-view datasets have demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed method.

We present a general-purpose data compression algorithm, Regularized L21 Semi-NonNegative Matrix Factorization (L21 SNF). L21 SNF provides robust, parts-based compression applicable to mixed-sign data for which high fidelity, individualdata point reconstruction is paramount. We derive a rigorous proof of convergenceof our algorithm. Through experiments, we show the use-case advantages presentedby L21 SNF, including application to the compression of highly overdeterminedsystems encountered broadly across many general machine learning processes.
Semi-supervised learning has been an effective paradigm for leveraging unlabeled data to reduce the reliance on labeled data. We propose CoMatch, a new semi-supervised learning method that unifies dominant approaches and addresses their limitations. CoMatch jointly learns two representations of the training data, their class probabilities and low-dimensional embeddings. The two representations interact with each other to jointly evolve. The embeddings impose a smoothness constraint on the class probabilities to improve the pseudo-labels, whereas the pseudo-labels regularize the structure of the embeddings through graph-based contrastive learning. CoMatch achieves state-of-the-art performance on multiple datasets. It achieves substantial accuracy improvements on the label-scarce CIFAR-10 and STL-10. On ImageNet with 1% labels, CoMatch achieves a top-1 accuracy of 66.0%, outperforming FixMatch by 12.6%. Furthermore, CoMatch achieves better representation learning performance on downstream tasks, outperforming both supervised learning and self-supervised learning. Code and pre-trained models are available at https://github.com/salesforce/CoMatch.
ICU mortality risk prediction is a tough yet important task. On one hand, due to the complex temporal data collected, it is difficult to identify the effective features and interpret them easily; on the other hand, good prediction can help clinicians take timely actions to prevent the mortality. These correspond to the interpretability and accuracy problems. Most existing methods lack of the interpretability, but recently Subgraph Augmented Nonnegative Matrix Factorization (SANMF) has been successfully applied to time series data to provide a path to interpret the features well. Therefore, we adopted this approach as the backbone to analyze the patient data. One limitation of the raw SANMF method is its poor prediction ability due to its unsupervised nature. To deal with this problem, we proposed a supervised SANMF algorithm by integrating the logistic regression loss function into the NMF framework and solved it with an alternating optimization procedure. We used the simulation data to verify the effectiveness of this method, and then we applied it to ICU mortality risk prediction and demonstrated its superiority over other conventional supervised NMF methods.
To explore underlying complementary information from multiple views, in this paper, we propose a novel Latent Multi-view Semi-Supervised Classification (LMSSC) method. Unlike most existing multi-view semi-supervised classification methods that learn the graph using original features, our method seeks an underlying latent representation and performs graph learning and label propagation based on the learned latent representation. With the complementarity of multiple views, the latent representation could depict the data more comprehensively than every single view individually, accordingly making the graph more accurate and robust as well. Finally, LMSSC integrates latent representation learning, graph construction, and label propagation into a unified framework, which makes each subtask optimized. Experimental results on real-world benchmark datasets validate the effectiveness of our proposed method.
Fully unsupervised topic models have found fantastic success in document clustering and classification. However, these models often suffer from the tendency to learn less-than-meaningful or even redundant topics when the data is biased towards a set of features. For this reason, we propose an approach based upon the nonnegative matrix factorization (NMF) model, deemed textit{Guided NMF}, that incorporates user-designed seed word supervision. Our experimental results demonstrate the promise of this model and illustrate that it is competitive with other methods of this ilk with only very little supervision information.
