In this paper, we investigate joint vehicle association and multi-dimensional resource management in a vehicular network assisted by multi-access edge computing (MEC) and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). To efficiently manage the available spectrum, computing, and caching resources for the MEC-mounted base station and UAVs, a resource optimization problem is formulated and carried out at a central controller. Considering the overlong solving time of the formulated problem and the sensitive delay requirements of vehicular applications, we transform the optimization problem using reinforcement learning and then design a deep deterministic policy gradient (DDPG)-based solution. Through training the DDPG-based resource management model offline, optimal vehicle association and resource allocation decisions can be obtained rapidly. Simulation results demonstrate that the DDPG-based resource management scheme can converge within 200 episodes and achieve higher delay/quality-of-service satisfaction ratios than the random scheme.
We consider the problem of intelligent and efficient resource management framework in mobile edge computing (MEC), which can reduce delay and energy consumption, featuring distributed optimization and efficient congestion avoidance mechanism. In this paper, we present a Cooperative Learning framework for resource management in MEC from an Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (ADMM) perspective, called CL-ADMM framework. First, in order to caching task efficiently in a group, a novel task popularity estimating scheme is proposed, which is based on semi-Markov process model, then a greedy task cooperative caching mechanism has been established, which can effectively reduce delay and energy consumption. Secondly, for addressing group congestion, a dynamic task migration scheme based on cooperative improved Q-learning is proposed, which can effectively reduce delay and alleviate congestion. Thirdly, for minimizing delay and energy consumption for resources allocation in a group, we formulate it as an optimization problem with a large number of variables, and then exploit a novel ADMM based scheme to address this problem, which can reduce the complexity of problem with a new set of auxiliary variables, these sub-problems are all convex problems, and can be solved by using a primal-dual approach, guaranteeing its convergences. Then we prove that the convergence by using Lyapunov theory. Numerical results demonstrate the effectiveness of the CL-ADMM and it can effectively reduce delay and energy consumption for MEC.
This paper investigates an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-assisted wireless powered mobile-edge computing (MEC) system, where the UAV powers the mobile terminals by wireless power transfer (WPT) and provides computation service for them. We aim to maximize the computation rate of terminals while ensuring fairness among them. Considering the random trajectories of mobile terminals, we propose a soft actor-critic (SAC)-based UAV trajectory planning and resource allocation (SAC-TR) algorithm, which combines off-policy and maximum entropy reinforcement learning to promote the convergence of the algorithm. We design the reward as a heterogeneous function of computation rate, fairness, and reaching of destination. Simulation results show that SAC-TR can quickly adapt to varying network environments and outperform representative benchmarks in a variety of situations.
This paper presents a novel unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) aided mobile edge computing (MEC) architecture for vehicular networks. It is considered that the vehicles should complete latency critical computation intensive tasks either locally with on-board computation units or by offloading part of their tasks to road side units (RSUs) with collocated MEC servers. In this direction, a hovering UAV can serve as an aerial RSU (ARSU) for task processing or act as an aerial relay and further offload the computation tasks to a ground RSU (GRSU). In order to significantly reduce the delay during data offloading and downloading, this architecture relies on the benefits of massive multiple input multiple output (MIMO). Therefore, it is considered that the vehicles, the ARSU, and the GRSU employ large scale antennas. A three dimensional (3D) geometrical representation of the MEC enabled network is introduced and an optimization method is proposed that minimizes the weighted total energy consumption (WTEC) of the vehicles and ARSU subject to transmit power allocation, task allocation, and timeslot scheduling. The numerical results verify the theoretical derivations, emphasize on the effectiveness of the massive MIMO transmission, and provide useful engineering insights.
The deployment of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is proliferating as they are effective, flexible and cost-efficient devices for a variety of applications ranging from natural disaster recovery to delivery of goods. We investigate a transmission mechanism aiming to improve the data rate between a base station (BS) and a user equipment through deploying multiple relaying UAVs. We consider the effect of interference, which is incurred by the nodes of another established communication network. Our primary goal is to design the 3D trajectories and power allocation for the UAVs to maximize the data flow while the interference constraint is met. The UAVs can reconfigure their locations to evade the unintended/intended interference caused by reckless/smart interferers. We also consider the scenario in which smart jammers chase the UAVs to degrade the communication quality. In this case, we investigate the problem from the perspective of both UAV network and smart jammers. An alternating-maximization approach is proposed to address the joint 3D trajectory design and power allocation problem. We handle the 3D trajectory design by resorting to spectral graph theory and subsequently address the power allocation through convex optimization techniques. Finally, we demonstrate the efficacy of our proposed method through simulations.
Fifth Generation (5G) wireless networks are designed to meet various end-user Quality of Service (QoS) requirements through high data rates (typically of Gbps order) and low latencies. Coupled with Fog and Mobile Edge Computing (MEC), 5G can achieve high data rates, enabling complex autonomous smart city services such as the large deployment of self-driving vehicles and large-scale Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled industrial manufacturing. However, to meet the exponentially growing number of connected IoT devices and irregular data and service requests in both low and highly dense locations, the process of enacting traditional cells supported through fixed and costly base stations requires rethought to enable on-demand mobile access points in the form of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) for diversified smart city scenarios. This article envisions a 5G network environment that is supported by blockchain-enabled UAVs to meet dynamic user demands with network access supply. The solution enables decentralized service delivery (Drones as a Service) and routing to and from end-users in a reliable and secure manner. Both public and private blockchains are deployed within the UAVs, supported by fog and cloud computing devices and data centers to provide wide range of complex authenticated service and data availability. Particular attention is paid tocomparing data delivery success rates and message exchange in the proposed solution against traditional UAV-supported cellular networks. Challenges and future research are also discussed with highlights on emerging technologies such as Federated Learning.
