The anti-kaon nucleon scattering lengths resulting from a Hamiltonian effective field theory analysis of experimental data and lattice QCD studies are presented. The same Hamiltonian is then used to compute the scattering length for the $K^- d$ system, taking careful account of the effects of recoil on the energy at which the $bar{K}N$ T-matrices are evaluated. These results are then used to estimate the shift and width of the $1S$ levels of anti-kaonic hydrogen and deuterium. The $K^- p$ result is in excellent agreement with the SIDDHARTA measurement. In the $K^- d$ case the imaginary part of the scattering length and consequently the width of the $1S$ state are considerably larger than found in earlier work. This is a consequence of the effect of recoil on the energy of the $bar{K}N$ energy, which enhances the role of the $Lambda(1405)$ resonance.

We have proposed to use an effective theory to describe interactions of an $Nbar N$-system. The effective theory can be constructed in analogy to the existing effective theory for an $NN$-system. In this work we study the next-to-leading order correction to $Nbar N$ scattering near the threshold in the effective theory. We find that the experimental data can be well described with the effective theory.
We argue that due to isospin and U-spin invariance of strong low-energy interactions the S-wave scattering lengths a^0_0 and a^1_0 of bar-KN scattering with isospin I=0 and I = 1 satisfy the low-energy theorem a^0_0 + 3 a^1_0 = 0 valid to leading order in chiral expansion. In the model of strong low-energy bar-KN interactions at threshold (EPJA 21,11 (2004)) we revisit the contribution of the Sigma(1750) resonance, which does not saturate the low-energy theorem a^0_0 + 3 a^1_0 = 0, and replace it by the baryon background with properties of an SU(3) octet. We calculate the S-wave scattering amplitudes of K^-N and K^-d scattering at threshold. We calculate the energy level displacements of the ground states of kaonic hydrogen and kaonic deuterium. The result obtained for kaonic hydrogen agrees well with recent experimental data by the DEAR Collaboration. We analyse the cross sections for elastic and inelastic K^-p scattering for laboratory momenta of the incident K^- meson from the domain 70 MeV/c < p_K < 150 MeV/c. The theoretical results agree with the available experimental data within two standard deviations.
We determine the four Fermi effective theory of neutrino interactions within the Standard Model including one-loop electroweak radiative corrections, in combination with the measured muon lifetime and precision electroweak data. Including two-loop matching and three-loop running corrections, we determine lepton coefficients accounting for all large logarithms through relative order $cal{O}(alpha alpha_s)$ and quark coefficients accounting for all large logarithms through ${cal{O}}(alpha)$. We present four-fermion coefficients valid in $n_f=3$ and $n_f=4$ flavor quark theories, as well as in the extreme low-energy limit. We relate the coefficients in this limit to neutrino charge radii governing matter effects via forward neutrino scattering on charged particles.
We investigate neutrinoless double beta decay ($0 ubetabeta$) in the presence of sterile neutrinos with Majorana mass terms. These gauge-singlet fields are allowed to interact with Standard-Model (SM) fields via renormalizable Yukawa couplings as well as higher-dimensional gauge-invariant operators up to dimension seven in the Standard Model Effective Field Theory extended with sterile neutrinos. At the GeV scale, we use Chiral effective field theory involving sterile neutrinos to connect the operators at the level of quarks and gluons to hadronic interactions involving pions and nucleons. This allows us to derive an expression for $0 ubetabeta$ rates for various isotopes in terms of phase-space factors, hadronic low-energy constants, nuclear matrix elements, the neutrino masses, and the Wilson coefficients of higher-dimensional operators. The needed hadronic low-energy constants and nuclear matrix elements depend on the neutrino masses, for which we obtain interpolation formulae grounded in QCD and chiral perturbation theory that improve existing formulae that are only valid in a small regime of neutrino masses. The resulting framework can be used directly to assess the impact of $0 ubetabeta$ experiments on scenarios with light sterile neutrinos and should prove useful in global analyses of sterile-neutrino searches. We perform several phenomenological studies of $0 ubetabeta$ in the presence of sterile neutrinos with and without higher-dimensional operators. We find that non-standard interactions involving sterile neutrinos have a dramatic impact on $0 ubetabeta$ phenomenology, and next-generation experiments can probe such interactions up to scales of $mathcal O(100)$ TeV.
We consider the phenomenological implications of charged scalar extensions of the SM Higgs sector in addition to EFT couplings of this new state to SM matter. We perform a detailed investigation of modifications of loop-induced decays of the 125 GeV Higgs boson, which receives corrections from the propagating charged scalars alongside one-loop EFT operator insertions and demonstrate that the interplay of $Hto gammagamma$ and $Hto Zgamma$ decays can be used to clarify the additional states phenomenology in case a discovery is made in the future. In parallel, EFT interactions of the charged Higgs can lead to a decreased sensitivity to the virtual presence of charged Higgs states, which can significantly weaken the constraints that are naively expected from the precisely measured $Hto gammagamma$ branching ratio. Again $Hto Zgamma$ measurements provide complementary sensitivity that can be exploited in the future.
