We report a high-resolution terahertz spectroscopic study of quantum spin dynamics in the antiferromagnetic Heisenberg-Ising spin-chain compound BaCo$_2$V$_2$O$_8$ as a function of temperature and longitudinal magnetic field. Confined spinon excitations are observed in an antiferromagnetic phase below $T_Nsimeq 5.5$ K. In a field-induced gapless phase above $B_c=3.8$ T, we identify many-body string excitations as well as low-energy fractional psinon/antipsinon excitations by comparing to Bethe-Ansatz calculations. In the vicinity of $B_c$, the high-energy string excitations are found to be dynamically dominant over the fractional excitations.

We report on spectroscopy study of elementary magnetic excitations in an Ising-like antiferromagnetic chain compound SrCo$_2$V$_2$O$_8$ as a function of temperature and applied transverse magnetic field up to 25 T. An optical as well as an acoustic branch of confined spinons, the elementary excitations at zero field, are identified in the antiferromagnetic phase below the N{e}el temperature of 5 K and described by a one-dimensional Schr{o}dinger equation. The confinement can be suppressed by an applied transverse field and a quantum disordered phase is induced at 7 T. In this disordered paramagnetic phase, we observe three emergent fermionic excitations with different transverse-field dependencies. The nature of these modes is clarified by studying spin dynamic structure factor of a 1D transverse-field Heisenberg-Ising (XXZ) model using the method of infinite time evolving block decimation. Our work reveals emergent quantum phenomena and provides a concrete system for testifying theoretical predications of one-dimension quantum spin models.
Close to the quantum critical point of the transverse-field Ising spin-chain model, an exotic dynamic spectrum was predicted to emerge upon a perturbative longitudinal field. The dynamic spectrum consists of eight particles and is governed by the symmetry of the $E_8$ Lie algebra. Here we report on high-resolution terahertz spectroscopy of quantum spin dynamics in the ferromagnetic Ising-chain material CoNb$_2$O$_6$. At 0.25 K in the magnetically ordered phase we identify characteristics of the first six $E_8$ particles, $mathbf{m}_1$ to $mathbf{m}_6$, and the two-particle ($mathbf{m}_1+mathbf{m}_2$) continuum in an applied transverse magnetic field of $B_c^{1D}=4.75$ T, before the three-dimensional magnetic order is suppressed above $B_c^{3D}approx 5.3$ T. The observation of the higher-energy particles ($mathbf{m}_3$ to $mathbf{m}_6$) above the low-energy two-particle continua features quantum many-body effects in the exotic dynamic spectrum.
When the quantum critical transverse-field Ising chain is perturbed by a longitudinal field, a quantum integrable model emerges in the scaling limit with massive excitations described by the exceptional $E_{8}$ Lie algebra. Using the corresponding analytical form factors of the quantum $E_{8}$ integrable model, we systematically study the spin dynamic structure factor of the perturbed quantum critical Ising chain, where particle channels with total energy up to 5$m_1$ ($m_1$ being the mass of the lightest $E_{8}$ particle) are exhausted. In addition to the significant single-particle contributions to the dynamic spectrum, each two-particle channel with different masses is found to exhibit an edge singularity at the threshold of the total mass and decays with an inverse square root of energy, which is attributed to the singularity of the two-particle density of states at the threshold. The singularity is absent for particles with equal masses due to a cancellation mechanism involving the structure of the form factors. As a consequence, the dynamic structure factor displays a cascade of bumping peaks in the continuum region with clear singular features which can serve as a solid guidance for the material realization of the quantum $E_{8}$ model.
In this study, we examine the thermodynamics and spin dynamics of spin-1/2 and spin-3/2 heptamers. Through an exact diagonalization of the isotropic Heisenberg Hamiltonian, we find the closed-form, analytical representations for thermodynamic properties, spin excitations, and neutron scattering structure factors. Furthermore, we investigate the {cluster-like excitations of quantum spin heptamer} in the three-dimensional pyrochlore lattice material MgCr$_2$O$_4$. Using a spin mapping of the spin-1/2 heptamer excitations, the calculated structure factors of the spin-3/2 heptamer are be determined, which provides clarification for the spin excitations in MgCr$_2$O$_4$. Overall, this study demonstrates the ability to use the spin mapping of structure factors for small spin systems to analyze more complex structures.
Coherent many-body quantum dynamics lies at the heart of quantum simulation and quantum computation. Both require coherent evolution in the exponentially large Hilbert space of an interacting many-body system. To date, trapped ions have defined the state of the art in terms of achievable coherence times in interacting spin chains. Here, we establish an alternative platform by reporting on the observation of coherent, fully interaction-driven quantum revivals of the magnetization in Rydberg-dressed Ising spin chains of atoms trapped in an optical lattice. We identify partial many-body revivals at up to about ten times the characteristic time scale set by the interactions. At the same time, single-site-resolved correlation measurements link the magnetization dynamics with inter-spin correlations appearing at different distances during the evolution. These results mark an enabling step towards the implementation of Rydberg atom based quantum annealers, quantum simulations of higher dimensional complex magnetic Hamiltonians, and itinerant long-range interacting quantum matter.
