A rigorous proof of a theorem on the coexistence of smooth Lyapunov function and smooth planar dynamical system with one arbitrary limit cycle is given, combining with a novel decomposition of the dynamical system from the perspective of mechanics. We base on this dynamic structure incorporating several efforts of this dynamic structure on fixed points, limit cycles and chaos, as well as on relevant known results, such as Schoenflies theorem, Riemann mapping theorem, boundary correspondence theorem and differential geometry theory, to prove this coexistence. We divide our procedure into three steps. We first introduce a new definition of Lyapunov function for these three types of attractors. Next, we prove a lemma that arbitrary simple closed curve in plane is diffeomorphic to the unit circle. Then, the strict construction of smooth Lyapunov function of the system with circle as limit cycle is given by the definition of a potential function. And then, a theorem is hence obtained: The smooth Lyapunov function always exists for the smooth planar dynamical system with one arbitrary limit cycle. Finally, by discussing the two criteria for system dissipation(divergence and dissipation power), we find they are not equal, and explain the meaning of dissipation in an infinitely repeated motion of limit cycle.

We consider the topological behaviors of continuous maps with one topological attractor on compact metric space $X$. This kind of map is a generalization of maps such as topologically expansive Lorenz map, unimodal map without homtervals and so on. We provide a leveled $A$-$R$ pair decomposition for such maps, and characterize $alpha$-limit set of each point. Based on weak Morse decomposition of $X$, we construct a bounded Lyapunov function $V(x)$, which give a clear description of orbit behavior of each point in $X$ except a meager set.
We prove the Holder continuity of the Lyapunov exponent for quasi-periodic Schrodinger cocycles with a $C^2$ cos-type potential and any fixed Liouvillean frequency, provided the coupling constant is sufficiently large. Moreover, the Holder exponent is independent of the frequency and the coupling constant.

In this paper, we study the bifurcate of limit cycles for Bogdanov-Takens system($dot{x}=y$, $dot{y}=-x+x^{2}$) under perturbations of piecewise smooth polynomials of degree $2$ and $n$ respectively. We bound the number of zeros of first order Melnikov function which controls the number of limit cycles bifurcating from the center. It is proved that the upper bounds of the number of limit cycles with switching curve $x=y^{2m}$($m$ is a positive integral) are $(39m+36)n+77m+21(mgeq 2)$ and $50n+52(m=1)$ (taking into account the multiplicity). The upper bounds number of limit cycles with switching lines $x=0$ and $y=0$ are 11 (taking into account the multiplicity) and it can be reached.

For many physical systems the transition from a stationary solution to sustained small amplitude oscillations corresponds to a Hopf bifurcation. For systems involving impacts, thresholds, switches, or other abrupt events, however, this transition can be achieved in fundamentally different ways. This paper reviews 20 such `Hopf-like bifurcations for two-dimensional ODE systems with state-dependent switching rules. The bifurcations include boundary equilibrium bifurcations, the collision or change of stability of equilibria or folds on switching manifolds, and limit cycle creation via hysteresis or time delay. In each case a stationary solution changes stability and possibly form, and emits one limit cycle. Each bifurcation is analysed quantitatively in a general setting: we identify quantities that govern the onset, criticality, and genericity of the bifurcation, and determine scaling laws for the period and amplitude of the resulting limit cycle. Complete derivations based on asymptotic expansions of Poincare maps are provided. Many of these are new, done previously only for piecewise-linear systems. The bifurcations are collated and compared so that dynamical observations can be matched to geometric mechanisms responsible for the creation of a limit cycle. The results are illustrated with impact oscillators, relay control, automated balancing control, predator-prey systems, ocean circulation, and the McKean and Wilson-Cowan neuron models.

In this paper we research global dynamics and bifurcations of planar piecewise smooth quadratic quasi--homogeneous but non-homogeneous polynomial differential systems. We present sufficient and necessary conditions for the existence of a center in piecewise smooth quadratic quasi--homogeneous systems. Moreover, the center is global and non-isochronous if it exists, which cannot appear in smooth quadratic quasi-homogeneous systems. Then the global structures of piecewise smooth quadratic quasi--homogeneous but non-homogeneous systems are studied. Finally we investigate limit cycle bifurcations of the piecewise smooth quadratic quasi-homogeneous center and give the maximal number of limit cycles bifurcating from the periodic orbits of the center by applying the Melnikov method for piecewise smooth near-Hamiltonian systems.
