The 10$^{rm th}$ International Workshop on the CKM Unitary Triangle took place at the University of Heidelberg on September 17$^{rm th}$-21$^{rm st}$, 2018. In this write-up, we summarize the material discussed at the workshop by the Working Group 7, which focused on latest experimental results and theoretical developments in the study of mixing and $CP$ violation in the neutral $D$ system, and of $CP$ violation and decay properties of other charm mesons and baryons.
We present a brief review of CPV and mixing measurements in the charm sector, with emphasys in results published or presented since the previous edition of the Physics in Collision Symposia.
We present the summary of the working group on $B$ mixing and the related CP violation at the CKM 2014 workshop. The contributions reflect the experimental and theoretical progress in the field over the last two years since the last CKM workshop.
Since the discovery of CP violation more than 5 decades ago, this phenomenon is still attracting a lot of interest. Among the many fascinating aspects of this subject, this review is dedicated to direct CP violation in non-leptonic decays. The advances within the last decade have been enormous, driven by the increasingly large samples of b- and c-hadron decays, and have led to very interesting results such as large CP asymmetries in charmless B decays and the observation of direct CP violation in the charm sector. We address the quest for understanding the origin of strong phases, the importance of final state interactions and the relation with CPT symmetry, and different approaches to measure direct CP violation in these decays. The main experimental results and their implications are then discussed.
The $CP$ violation observables $S$ and $C$ in the decay channel $B^0 !rightarrow D^+ D^-$ are determined from a sample of proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, collected by the LHCb experiment and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb$^{-1}$. The observable $S$ describes $CP$ violation in the interference between mixing and the decay amplitude, and $C$ parametrizes direct $CP$ violation in the decay. The following values are obtained from a flavor-tagged, decay-time-dependent analysis: begin{align*} S &= -0.54 , ^{+0.17}_{-0.16} , text{(stat)} pm 0.05 , text{(syst)},, ewline C &= phantom{-}0.26 , ^{+0.18}_{-0.17} , text{(stat)} pm 0.02 , text{(syst)},. end{align*} These values provide evidence for $CP$ violation at a significance level of 4.0 standard deviations. The phase shift due to higher-order Standard Model corrections is constrained to a small value of begin{align*} Deltaphi = -0.16,^{+0.19}_{-0.21},text{rad},. end{align*}
We report a measurement of the CP violation parameters in b->c anti-c d decays. Mixing-induced CP violation involving this transition is studied using a sample of B0->J/psi pi0, D*+D*- and D*+-D-+ decays with a data set accumulated at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric e+e- collider. CP violation parameters are extracted from a fit to the distributions of time intervals between two B0 meson decay vertexes.
